The only thing i know is that the stock motor mounts on your legacy should fit the 2.5l engine. Since all ej series are interchangable spacing and mounting wise.
doesnt the outback already have a 25 in it also it will be a piece of cake mostly plug and play i believe the suspension is the same not sure tho and the tranny is the same and so is the rear diff if not just swap the motor if it isnt a 2.5 already

Honestly I cant out find whether or not the 98 legacy came with the 2.5.......its engine code is EJ25DAWDYL. I was assuming it was cause of the 25 but still cant say for sure. I also want to know if its a dohc or sohc, likewise with the 2.5rs motor (99). If ther is no advantage I will hold off on the swap and send out the rs parts for port work. does any one know if the rs manifold and throttle body are bigger? (assuming they work that is) because that i may throw them on anyway

The 98 outback already has the 2.5. You dont need to do a motor swap. The intake manifold wont bolt on either, and the throttle body is not larger. The power numbers are roughly identicle, the 98 is actually a DOHC motor as opposed to the 99 with a SOHC. Both have their positives and negatives. The tranny is basically the same too.
The suspension you could use. The exhaust you can use, perhaps with modifying a hangar or two but otherwise will work. The bumpers you can not use.

another thing... if you wanted to put impreza bumpers on a legacy body, that won't work- the legacy is slightly wider. I'm not sure if you were planning this- you mentioned bumpers, though... just a heads up

finally good info, thanks guys...but is ther a website or even book that just lists whats what /whats good bad etc? I know that may be a silly question but who knows. Also if the bumpers dont fit its not a heart breaker, Im going to be selling so much of this stuff anyway, I had to take everthing the guy had if i was gonna take a bolt, but it was $200 so i cant complain. (I wish he still had the wheels though)
