i bought the wrx sti shifter surround which has nuts to attach. no instructions came with the piece. trimming of plastic surround was suggested. i would appreciate any suggestions on removing the shifter boot so i can easily trim the existing surround and not ruin the boot. the surround i purchased has a deep ridge running around the bottom so the plastic must be trimmed so the plate will fit flush.

you will need to pry off the center console. its easy to do.
i think scoobymods.com had instructions on how to install
the Kartboy shortshifter. follow the pictures on how to take
off the center console.

btw, you are lucky to have purchased the sti trim. the one
i bought was from autospeedperformance. it does not require
you to take off the center console but since the trim is flat, it
does not match the curvature of the center console leaving a
gap of about 1mm on both sides unless you bend it carefully to
contour the console. it was a pain in the ass and for only
30bucks difference, if id known better, id went with the trim
you have.
