What brakes are you using? Brembo Stoptech Wilwood Stock / Other Kevin M 11-23-2002, 06:15 PM Still running stocks, but if I ever saw real track time I'd probably get Stoptech. Tim K 11-23-2002, 07:47 PM Brakes are made of many components. I can run Wilwood calipers on stock rotors, or brembo rotors with stock calipers. Are we talking an entire system change front and rear, or just front? david2z4 11-23-2002, 08:11 PM Im running Stoptech and love them. They not only resist fading very well but the price you can get them are really good. Some have a package deal that includes; Front Stoptech kit drilled or slotted. Dot front and rear Stoptech stainless brake lines Motul fluid rear brembo/eurorotor or equivitant drilled stock replacement. All for $1695 Downside is you must have 17" rims so if you plan on offroad or snow driving you either need to take them off to run 15-16" rims or go with something that accepts them. david2z4 11-23-2002, 08:15 PM . ctkag 11-23-2002, 09:16 PM I've got the 4-pot 22b brake kit up front with DBA5000 rotors, stainless lines & STi pads (for street). In back, I have the 2-pot 22b brake kit, also with STi pads & stainless lines. I'm using Motul DOT4 fluid & speedbleeders. Also have MRT master cylinder brace. Car stops. I used Porterfield R-4 pads for the last track day - have some issues - the pads have evidence of cracking after just a single days runs. Rollerboy 11-24-2002, 12:14 AM any more Stoptech pix out there? Brakes are next on my list, I really want the red Stoptech's.......damn I'm gonna be broke again! Obi-Wan 11-24-2002, 12:52 PM I'm running stock brakes now, but use performance friction race pads for track days. I would LOVE to get the Stoptech kit, I think it's the best deal for the money. ImprezaRSDriver 11-24-2002, 01:36 PM I have the StopTech Kit on my WRX and I have the Subaru 4pot fronts and 2pot rears on my RS. Btw, ctkag, where did you get the red 22B calipers? I have been looking for those for quite sometime. I ended up having to go with the stock black calipers. Rollerboy 11-25-2002, 12:04 AM http://www.rallispec.com under the sport parts section..... are the 22B red calipers go go go 11-25-2002, 04:08 AM Legacy B4 RSK caliper +RG slit rotor +AP Lockheed ZC pads works great to me. I use it on street / canyon / track. It works well in any situation. I expected the AP Lockheed pads to be noisy but it doesn't make any noise. Dust is not too annoying too. Now that I got used to performance pads, my next pads will be Endless CCR. Addicted the performance pads, can't go back to stock anymore. V6turboTA 11-25-2002, 04:32 AM I read a review on 6 new brake kits on the WRX in Car and Driver a while back iirc. The Stoptech performed awesome and I think it was the cheapest of the bunch. I remember after reading that article my mind was made up on what kit to buy if I upgrade. The stoptech was clearly the kit to buy for both performance and price. ~v6 N/A 11-25-2002, 04:49 AM I'm using a 4 piston setup from a wrecked P1 (same as STI) with SS brake lines, slotted rotors and for now stock pads. ImprezaRSDriver 11-25-2002, 08:55 AM Cool, Thanks Rollerboy. Jackffr1846 11-25-2002, 11:02 AM I've got subie 4-pot fronts with OEM WRX rotors on my GC8 RS. WRX rear rotors and brake caliper brackets. This is what the car should have come with originally for track use. I've been quite happy with the setup. It's cheap, allows me to run an entire track day without bleeding the brakes in between (motul 600 fluid, by the way....and brake ducts in the front) and didn't cost me an arm and a leg. jack Rollerboy 11-25-2002, 11:16 AM I want these red Stoptechs!!! Lobster Man 11-25-2002, 11:37 AM Does Stoptech make a rear brake kit as well? Mach5WRX 11-25-2002, 03:31 PM I wish they did! ImprezaRSDriver 11-25-2002, 08:47 PM I am sure that you can get red StopTech calipers. All you need to do is ask. The reason why they sold the black anodized calipers is because it brings the over kit price down. Since the ST40 Calipers are all the same size with only various piston sizes, you can just buy the caliper needed with correct pistons for the car. Kevin M 11-25-2002, 11:08 PM Or you could just, you know... paint them red before you install them. Of course, then they wouldn't say StopTech anymore and apparently wouldn't work as well. :D Kobayashi 11-26-2002, 10:56 AM Originally posted by Obi-Wan I'm running stock brakes now, but use performance friction race pads for track days. Mach5WRX 11-26-2002, 09:43 PM Thanks keep the info coming! Kobayashi 11-27-2002, 01:07 PM fess up on the PFC pads. k. GarySheehan 11-30-2002, 12:37 PM Kobayashi, Call Porterfield Enterprises (www.porterfield-brakes.com) and ask to speak with Tim (iirc). They will custom cut a larger set of 93 compound pads down to WRX size. It's not too expensive, either. Gary Sheehan Motor Racing www.teamSMR.com Mach5WRX 12-09-2002, 11:03 PM Bump! DanMan 12-12-2002, 12:51 PM http://www-scf.usc.edu/~harman/wrx/stoptech.jpg I love my stoptechs, they've been great so far. I've got axxis pads for the street and stoptech red for the track. Honestly, you can't go wrong with these, plenty of brake for the car at a reasonable price. I should have gotten them in red though :( Dan |
