I want to see if there is interest in hosting program for i-Club members. Basically what I am thinking about is provide members with username@i-club.com e-mail address, some MB hosting account and username.i-club.com redirects to your i-club.com webspace.

This is something I though about for a while and wanted to pitch it to you guys. Of course, there will be a small fee for that, as it will increase my bandwidth usage. Please let me know what you think and how much you would be willing to pay.

Give me feedback, please.

Great idea Alex! I think it would allow people to be more creative than the standard "Gallery" format we have now.

Ti CUSCO exhaust is no longer made. Sorry.

Don't forget to say how much you would be willing to pay for "i-Club.com Hosting Services".

Hmmm, I just renewed my 1 year of hosting service/domain reg. I basically only use it for an e-mail address and an image and resume host. Currently I'm paying $40 a year, and it would have to be significantly lower for me to do this. I don't think I want to deal with changing my e-mail address again.

I think it'd be a good idea so I voted yet, but I just personally don't want to sign up for it.

i've already got a homepage of sorts and i store my images on a friends site already, so its really of no use.

but if people want it and will pay for it, then go for it.

I would be interested in a Email account only at this time thank you! Oh, by the Way awesome web site!

Price should be comparative to others as not to cheat yourself out of needed cash flow, so somewhere around $ 9.95 is still a decent price for year round affiliation with this Truely Awesome Web Site! As for Hosting suggestions is make it so yours competitive but allow the members before the web hosting service came into effect to have maybe an advantage in costs, where out side sources or vendors would still have to pay a premium! Just thoughts from outside the box thinking!

I think it's a great idea. The web space woud give us a place to store our car pics, and the email address would give me a place to have my "car stuff" emails sent so I don't clog up my work/personal address.

edit- is there a such thing as email consolidation?
if so i'd like to keep all email in i-club.

An email system with space to store pics & such as everyother thread post states would be a good idea. I think you should make it an extra offer to those who register with the site for the first time. You shouldn't start saying that the site is going to charge you for a service that some people might not want to use if they just want to register to post threads and find info. In short keep the general registration and then offer a tiered package that has other options as far as size of mail box and space for website creation. charge a monthly fee according to national averages based on such a system...

You've got to keep those people who helped make the site so popular and those who spread the sites influence. If you really want to be a big dawg make a offer to incorporate the website as a fully functioning organization...I'm just thinking on a broader scale because as an incorporated organization the influence would set a precedent in tuner world history!

Good Idea, although I don't need email. Hosting, once i get a job, i would LOVE. But for emails, with aol its almost instant and I don thave to hit a reload button to keep myself updated on mail so I think i'm going to stick w/ aol for mail

But I do have lots of vids and pics that I would love to host, and if im gonna pay for it, i'll sure as hell pay i-club. i love this place

Think its a great idea....I would at least maybe offer a trial period of 6 months or so at around $4.95 to give users a chance to try it out first before buying a years trial. But I voted Yes and hope that it may expand this already incredible website.

I think it is a great idea. I would cerianly be willing to pay a reaonable amount as long as there was a decent amount of space, it was open enough so I could host a webpage and any vids or pics I wanted, and most importantly, that I could post my pics on other sites and forums. That is something that bugs me the most. The majority of the previous web hosts I have used would not allow me to post my pics anywhere and would give me a red x instead of a pic on the forums I vist. As long as I was not restricted like this then I would buy it.

Alex,

just a friendly warning: managing webspace and email for a bunch of people can be very demanding, as you are entering the IS industry. At this point, you have a site that basically runs a content management system and looks pretty fly and is fast and easy to maintain.

Adding individual webspace requires granting user access and makes your site more vulnerable to attacks. It increases bandwidth demands. It produces thousands of emails from customers who want to know how to their one thing...

I say you should start with an email forwarding service. Just relay people's emails to their other addresses. Everyone gets their @i-club.com with almost zero overhead. You can even run spamassassin and tag their spam for them. It's so simple you can make it free.

05-27-2004, 11:43 AM
I'm only interested in username <at> i-Club.com address. My online service already provides me with what little space I require. I'm sure that it would be a different story if I needed to host vids and the increased demands on bandwidth that would require. For the i-Club.com e-mail address, I'd prefer message forwarding to my existing e-mail address.

I would pay $8 per year for an e-mail forwarding service although I would probably be willing to make a donation for a larger amount to help defray costs to i-Club.

i think its a grate idea but i think i like the forwarding idea best. this way no one has to change Email and can just get there I-Club stuff end to there normal Email so poeple with email address that let u know when u got a new email will till work. i use yahoo for my email and have my IE toolbar and Mesager to let me know when i got an email. this is something i realy don;t want to give up but i realy want an I-Club email address. this way we can have the best of both worlds

You are probably not the only one who may feel that way BUT overall as a whole it doesn't matter if it affects you personally by "having to get" another email address dont look at it pessimistically because this would actually be good for I-club and there are a lot of people tired with thier old email (probably spammed to hell) and/or are waiting to be able to have free webspace. I voted yes and am all for it. Another great way to promote the system and get a better known name out there. GO ALEX!

I am finishing up setting up the software for this. I will be offering username.i-club.com hosting and username@i-club.com e-mail services for a fee. It will not be as cheap as some other hosting and e-mail services, but I am looking to do it to raise some money for a server and I am not looking for thousands of people to sign up. So this will be a premium service to some people.

As some other people mentioned, this sort of thing can be a huge PITA. Setting it up isn't hard ... what is a problem is handling reports of abuse, copyright infringement, harassment, and a _lot_ of "my e-mail doesn't work!" or "people can't view this file!" sort of requests. Usually simple stuff, but when you start getting a fair volume of it, you start wondering if it's worth money you're making off the service anyways. The alternative is to put up some help/info pages, ignore the requests, and get branded as "one of those webhosting providers who has crappy customer support".

I think you've got a great market here, for people who are willing to _support the site_ and get some webhosting / e-mail addy in return. But I also think you'll be surprised at just how many challenges there are. Be sure to setup a message board where people can help each other with problems.

Short version? Good idea, but the amount of time involved may surprise you... (and yes, even taking into consideration you have the experience of supporting the board). I'd definitely say run with branded options, but stay away from trying to compete in mainstream, e.g. spam filtering.

I have a fair bit of experience in this field, have seen it done the right way and the wrong way. Far be it from me to advise you on a business plan, just some feedback on day-to-day operations aspect.

I think it would be good to set up an email and a place to set up some pictures and a page the way you want it, but then again, isnt that what myspace pretty much does.
I think that if you have to pay for the service you should have some kind of hook-ups or something from the vendors that are supported on here.

Just a thought from a newbie subie owner.
