View Full Version : STi 2.5 into my 2000 2.5rs
antirobots 04-16-2004, 10:07 PM How hard would this be to swap? If i imported an engine and had the talent and the shop to put it all in? Just kind of wondering if there was any good info on what is involved.
I may have found a cheap STi engine and its got me thinking..
nautic1601 04-16-2004, 10:48 PM The car will be sick, since there at least 300lbs lighter than an sti, however you will need to re-wired some of the car and the will need a new trans, the rs trans tends to break gears under alot of power. the motor and everything use the mounts, I reccomend buying the sti mounts though, which are stronger.
bone324 04-17-2004, 01:44 PM Sport Compact Car magazine did an article on these swaps a few months back. It's pretty straightforward except for the wiring.
antirobots 04-17-2004, 09:22 PM bone, do you know what month/year issue of SCC those are in?
bone324 04-18-2004, 11:27 AM Yeah, I'm looking at it right now. It's March 04, with the yellow 350Z on the cover. It's about dropping the EJ20 into any GC8, Forrester, or Legacy. But the swap should be very similar with the 2.5. They got all their info from www.i-speedusa.com who does a crapload of swaps.
RS TURBO 04-18-2004, 11:53 PM all of the swaps have been done by Adam Levy @ LICmotorsports.com......he's always worked in conjuction with
I-speedUSA and has now fully opened his own shop in Novato, CA....LICmotorsports & I-speedUSA are connected.....mildly confusing to most...entirely understandable by the rest!!;)
Get LIC'd...? 04-20-2004, 11:35 AM Adam of LIC Motorsports along with I-SpeedUSA was featured in the March issue of Sport Compact Car (vol 16, no 3) Hybrid how to #14.
As RS TURBO stated before ADAM LEVY has done all the swaps for I-SpeedUSA. We're close business associates and friends.
Thanks,
Noah Levy

LIC Motorsports 04-23-2004, 07:35 PM Well, I don't think my name needs to be in CAPS ;)
Bone324: maybe it's confusing, but the GC8 is the 2.5RS it's the body code for the 93-01 impreza coupe. So, yes it will work.
Antirobots: Have you found just the engine, and which is it? Such as what year is it from or what version? Does it includce anything needed for a swap? Because the motor is the easy part, the hard part is finding a harness and all the other parts to complete the swap.

antirobots 04-23-2004, 08:16 PM the engine is probably coming out of a wrecked STi. It looks like the harness is the hardest part.. i wonder if i could do it myself... :D

No, it isn't confusing. I know what a GC8 is. I was referring to the article being about the EJ20 swap into other chassis, as opposed to the EJ25. I imagine the EJ25 (2.5) would be very similar.

Oh, I see what you're saying, looks like I'm the one who was confused. ;) As for doing an STi EJ25 conversion, then YES it would be similar. I've yet to do one, but hopefully in the near future. :)

dangerousatom 04-26-2004, 09:17 PM The guys at www.Rallispec.com told me when I was over there a few weeks ago. That the 2.5 to a 2.57-STI swap is not a hard job and the wireing issue is solved in the easyest way by getting a WRX harness and ECU and just getting it flashed by them or someone with the rite software.
--That seems the cheeper way as well to me--
You also dont have to worry about DYNO tunning costs and the $750ish cost of a stand alone system....wich will need like four seasonal maps for climate and temp changes. Also the subby ECU has lots of safty features in it to prevent damage to the engine in cases of nock or detination......dont ask me what or how,( somthing about auto shutting down-lowering boost and others things ).....he was getting over my head with that stuff.

go go go 04-26-2004, 10:09 PM get the whole wreck if you can
much much easier and cheaper
sell what you dont need after you finish it
nautic1601 04-27-2004, 09:01 AM Most if not all cars that are boosted have a "limp" mode where if it gets a check engine light or a similar sensor reading it will cut boost down. For example, the wrx that I was workin on got a no gas cap read and the mrt fuel rails that we had installed had a leak. So the ecutek map would only make 8 lbs where it was set in the high curve to make 16 lbs of boost.
