there are a couple of names used to describe the wheels with only 1 big hole in the center

Pin Drive wheels
Center lock wheels

they are used on Formula 1 race cars

Center lock wheels exist for one purpose -- to allow for VERY FAST wheel changes during pitstops. There's no reason at all to have them on a daily driver, and they aren't meant for that purpose. I'm fairly certain that they wouldn't be street legal; even some 4-to-5 lug conversion kits shouldn't be allowed, as they extend the axle beyond factory spec.

your picture is of a race application .... but, they are street legal and there are adapters you can use to utilize centerlock wheels but you will not find an application with a high enough offset to make it work ... it simply does not exist

I know that the Enkei company was pushing these for the Honda/Acura application about a year or two ago. Can't really determine if the concept for the street ever took off. I do have a couple of friends that rolled this combo on their civics. Major problem I saw was that the only application size you could get this for was for a 18''or 19'' wheel, and only specifc model rims. A general pain in the butt is what I am really trying to say...

There is one small problem (I speak from experience). Anybody can take all 4 wheels in about 30 seconds. The thieves don't even need a jack because they do not care about the rotors hitting the ground when the tires and rims are kicked off.

Just get some old school looking BBS. The cross threaded multi spokes you see on 911s. They have a big center cap that cover the lugs and looks like the large single nut. That is how you remove the center cap with the large nut.

A lot of super high-end cars are parked in a locked garage with security cameras at home and in the VIP slots at the office or the resturaunts... :)

BTW, how would someone steal your wheels and NOT leave it on the rotors? No thief is going to leave their jacks behind!

Ahh, the cement block -- a classic!

Actually, there is a group of theives jacking BBS and Dubs from local Escalades around here, and they DO leave the jacks behind. They get two shop-quality jacks and put them under the front and rear jack points and just boost the car up in the air, then take the wheels (often leaving the lugs scattered around.) There was a hilarious picture of this in the paper last week... But the wheels stolen were worth $8,000 or so -- these crooks aren't in high school.

Not really. When you get up to the 24" size, basically all you can get are custom or rare wheels. Besides, these are going on $56,000 cars, so spending $8k more (and paying dealer prices, not TireRack prices) isn't that much of a stretch. A set of 24" HREs will set you back that much, easily. Also, the $8,000 includes the cost of the tires, which can approach the $250-apiece mark easily at that size (again, dealership prices, not TR).

way back in the day, my sisters del sol wheels got jacked. my family was on vacation camping some where for the week, when we got back, the thieves were nice enough to leave the car on milk crates filled with wood.
