Anyway, main reason for this thread was b/c it's the first one. scottm1978 11-22-2002, 08:42 PM I just bought a set of Dunlop Graspic DS-1. we will see how they perform. N/A 11-23-2002, 03:40 AM I've used the Graspics on a car and they were good tires but I like the Blizzak tires. I'm running a set of decent all season tires on the stock 16s for now cause a full blown snow tire would be over kill in Maryland. GLwagon 11-23-2002, 10:02 AM I'm in the process of getting a set of Blizak LM-22's I'm going to stuff them on to the factory rims so I have a reason to get some 17's in the spring... LagnWagn 11-23-2002, 11:00 AM I just bought a set of Dunlop W/S M2's, i'll let you guys know how they work when I see some snow. It was a hard decision between these and the Blizzak lm-22, both are really good tires, I just wanted to save a little cash. Lobster Man 11-23-2002, 10:16 PM On the old i-club someone posted a link for some really wierd tires. Two people got them but they havn't posted what they thought of them yet. Tell me what you think. www.greendiamondna.com Obi-Wan 11-24-2002, 02:25 AM I've got Pirelli 210's and they work well. Handle better than the stock RE92's on the dry pavement too. As for the title of this thread, I use my stock 16in rims for WINTER WHEELS. ImprezaRSDriver 11-24-2002, 11:34 AM I have never purchased a snow tire before because it just does not snow where I live and such. I was wondering if it is worth it to get set of winter wheels and tires for ski-trips and such. So basically my question is, is it worth it to get just snow tire or all seasons for ski-trips. I am still leaning towards a designated snow tire because of the conditions that I could face going up to the mountains. I am just worried that an all-season will just not be enough even with AWD. youthanasia 11-24-2002, 12:26 PM I've done some winter TSD Rally's on Toyo G-02 observes. I find them very good on ice. Just a word of warning though, they do stick, but then if you push too hard, they lose grip without warning. They're excellent in snow. But it seems that the tire of choice for the TSD people in snow are Nokian Hakka Q's for studdless, Hakka 1's for studdable tires. bj1785 11-25-2002, 06:46 AM I just got a set of 17' michellen pilot sport a/s and man are they sweet, don't know how they will be in the snow but you can drive in pouring rain and it feels like dry pavement. A little pricey but well worth it. I read a review of these tires that said good things about them in the snow as well. I will find out soon, I am in Michigan and It's gettin ready to dump pretty soon. GQ 11-25-2002, 07:09 AM I just purchased a set of steelies 15" and Dunlop Graspic DS-1's. I hope we get lotsa snow, here in Southern Maryland... BlingBlingBlue 11-25-2002, 10:26 AM "I have never purchased a snow tire before because it just does not snow where I live and such. I'm in the same boat as you. I used my RE92's last year with minimal problems. They didn't stop or turn terribly well, but you can get by if you are careful. This year I slapped some Nokian NRW (all seasons) on the rig. These look to be better performers in the snow and carry the snowflake logo on their sidewall. Unfortunately, I won't be able to opine on them until we get some snow in the Sierras...I can tell you the Nokians are as good if not better than the RE92's in the dry. Quieter, too! Lobster Man 11-25-2002, 11:13 AM Ya, RE'92's have major suck in the snow. Obi-Wan 11-25-2002, 12:05 PM Originally posted by Lobster Man Ya, RE'92's have major suck in the snow. Not as much suck as Toyo T1-S's though! Found that out when I took my snowies off too early last spring..... ish 11-25-2002, 01:52 PM Originally posted by Lobster Man Ya, RE'92's have major suck in the snow. so true, and the funny part is that is what i use in the snow. i really need to get some money so i can buy a decent set of tires ImprezaRSDriver 11-25-2002, 11:16 PM Originally posted by Obi-Wan Not as much suck as Toyo T1-S's though! Found that out when I took my snowies off too early last spring..... Considering that the T1-S is a high performance tire. I would hope they not work well in the snow. rohde88 11-25-2002, 11:52 PM as for Bay area folk, isnt it better to get chain/cables? because the CHP wants cables not neccessarily good snow tires. Obi-Wan 11-26-2002, 11:01 AM Originally posted by ImprezaRSDriver Considering that the T1-S is a high performance tire. (The post title says rims, the thread seems to be about tires) :p The RE92's are horrible in the snow. The only people that will tell you otherwise are those who have never driven a real snow tire in snowy conditions. :) With that being said, you have to make the call as to how much snow you'll encounter, and what level of tire you need. Here's my winter setup, I'll be sure to get some better pics tomorrow when it snows! http://www.garrickgoh.com/iclubdls/rallyraid.jpg OZ Rally Raids on 205/55 16 Michelin Arctic Alpins.
