I was reading somewhere from the announced official specs that the Evo 8 engine will require a 98 RON rating fuel equiv to 93 octane gas, which makes me wonder, states like california only have 91 octane max at their pumps, does that mean Mitsu will have to release a detuned version for those states or will they just release a detuned version throughout the country and fall short of their announced power specs?

They recommend 93 octane. I'm sure the car will retard timing if you put in 91. They DO require synthetic oil, however, which must be changed every 3000 miles. Kaching! I believe that's a first in a production car.

requires synthetic oil?? if you use conventional it will void the warrenty?? try and get that in writing from the dealer, they wont give it to you. under the magnuson-moss warrenty act any vehicle that REQUIRES a certian product for preventitive matinance needs, in reference to the vehicle's warrenty, must be provided FREE of charge from the dealer/manufacter. so synthetic might be recommended for the evo, but dosen't require it. unless of course mitsu has pockets deep enough to service the u.s.'s evos every 3k.

But BMW doesn't recommend that you change it every 3K.

and if it's full synthetic it won't need to be changed every 3K miles, and your right BMW requires it be changed every 15K

Corvettes come with Mobil-1 from the factory too IIRC..I'm not sure about their oil change policy though and whether or not it is an requirement to continue to use synthetic, although I'm sure the majority of Vette owners do.
