View Full Version : top speed cabe 02-03-2004, 03:32 PM What's the top speed of a mostly stock '99 imreza 2.2L coupe? Thanks. whitelegacy98 02-03-2004, 09:49 PM I'm not certain but I'm pretty sure 112 auto or manual? cabe 02-04-2004, 08:41 AM My car is a 5 spd and has already been up to 112 without cutting off. whitelegacy98 02-04-2004, 09:13 AM yeah, Ive been over 115 in my legacy that supposedly has a 112 cut off but that is the official top speed I do believe this was a thread a few months ago in the legacy forum I think. cabe 02-04-2004, 09:26 AM Hey thanks a lot. I know I could go over 112 in my car. Is there any way I can take the speed limiter out or the rpm limiter out? ECU maybe? Defiantguy 02-04-2004, 01:02 PM 112 is the cutoff if you have an auto cabe 02-04-2004, 04:05 PM my car is a 5spd, not an auto whitelegacy98 02-05-2004, 09:16 AM Originally posted by cabe Hey thanks a lot. ECU maybe? you can have the speed limiter removed Defiant guy: what is the limit for a 5-speed? cabe 02-05-2004, 09:52 AM how do i remove the speed limiter? also, defiant guy, I have had my 5spd to 112 without it cutting off, coincidentally, thats also where i wussed out, but I'm sure it would go faster. cabe 02-05-2004, 09:53 AM o yeah, my friend has a 98 legacy gt wagon (5spd) that he has had to 118 and it didnt cut. TeamDI_Subie 02-06-2004, 12:23 AM I have installed the JC Sports Torque Chip, the short ram intake, and a Stromung exhaust and I have been able to run out of numbers on the speedo and on up to redline. My car has a final drive of 4.11 and so i'm guessing the top speed to be somewhere @ 130. The first versions of the chip eliminated the rev limiter but the newer version have the rev limiter in place. The stock engine dies off @ 5800 rpm. JC Sorts however is no longer in business....CRAPPY SERVICE AND TOO LONG TO SHIP ITEMS!!!!!! I'm pretty certain that scoobysport has a similar chip. cabe 02-06-2004, 06:53 AM Where did you get the JC chip and how much was it? Was it hard to install? Also, my rpms cut off at 6200. TeamDI_Subie 02-06-2004, 01:11 PM JC Sports is no longer in business and supposedly into R&D only now. I believe Scoobysport has a similar chip and they even claim it to be an equal to the JC Sports chip. They even look identical in the photos. To install you'll need to know how to solder and use heat shrink tubing to complete the job nicely. The hardest part will actually be counting the pins on the 3 ECU plugs. JC Sports had the ECU plugs labeled wrong so I had to count the pins myself. The install took less than an hour.If you get the chip, you won't see any immediate change. The chip will learn your driving habits and adjust the ECU to your driving style and change the torque band there. However if you decide to change the driving style as well after being progarmmed in you simply disconnect the battery for @ 15 minutes and start all over again. To get the most out of the chip it is claimed that the learning on the chip takes @ 4-6 weeks to learn how you drive. Even though our cars redline at 6200, it's normally better to shift @ 5800. I'm sure you notice the car bog down just before redline. The stock cams just simply quit letting the car breath.:( Until we switch out cams for a set of Cobb cams we will have to deal with it and work around it. TeamDI_Subie 02-06-2004, 01:23 PM I found the website http://www.subaruplanet.com/electronics.htm#torquechip Hopefully this will get you on your way and turns out that it IS the same chip that JC Sports had/has.:D Bagin,DVS 02-06-2004, 02:45 PM i hit 120 in my rs and it did not cut off, it just seem to take for ever to get theree, and it just seem to get there and hover at 120. TeamDI_Subie 02-06-2004, 03:00 PM I'm not sure of what mods you have done on your car Bagin. I don't doubt you at all. I know I have reduced the weight of mine by ditching most of the stuff I could afford to at the time. I haven't been able to drop a few hundred in a carbon fiber or off road hoods. I only have an intake, chip and exhaust on the engine. Most of my mods were in the suspension. I plan on more later but I need to take care of a few body things first. nautic1601 02-14-2004, 12:49 PM I had my 2000 rs buried at 120 and the tach was still moving, my guess is that I was doing about 125-130. After that I pussed out considering I was in a 55 on a major road. |
