Got mine for $750 over invoice.
Things to watch out for:
Don't let them stick you with a "dealer prep" charge. I've never paid for one in my life and if you make that a sticking point on the sale, they will take it off.
Don't pay for "Clear Coat Protection" or any kind of paint sealer. It's just dealer fluff that inflates their profit. Most times, they say..."It's already on the car." However, if you make it clear that you don't pay for such fluff, they will take that off there.
Also, they tried to slip $275 for Advertising into my deal. I made them take that out right then and there.
Just read over your contract VERY carefully....they will often try to hide extra charges in there that you don't know anything about. Also...don't pay for them to "etch" your vin # into the glass...that's another rip off.

Depends on where you live and demand. In the DC metro area I'm starting to see a lot of STis sitting on lots and most dealers STILL e-mail me saying that they are only charging $300 or $500 over invoice and that I should come in today and buy, buy, BUY! If I was buying one right now I wouldn't pay a dime over invoice and I wouldn't get any of the fluff like the previous poster said. The only options I'd consider would be the security system, wheel locks and possibly the armrest extension since I do a lot of driving. Leave off the boost gauge (it's not in PSI anyways it's in MPa (or something like that)) and the stereo, you can get a hell of a lot nicer sounding stereo for the $1000 they want for their stock WRX one.

I went and test drove and loved it, and almost bought a White STi for $500 over invoice. But they were gonna rape me on the trade in I had there. It seems the '04's are almost gone, and the '05's will be in around June according to my dealer. And of course you can believe everything they say.

Your dealer is right. The 04's are almost gone and the 05's will start arriving in June.
