I've gone through the search and have not found good instructions on how to disable the daytime running lights, I took the glovebox out last night but could not figure out which plug to pull. If someone could tell me like where exactly to look what it looks like and everything, that would be great.

Thanks,
Raymond

it's a 04 WRX

it is the 10 pin green connectors above the kickpod (about 3") which is the relay switch. it is the only 10 pin green one up there. the other connector in that area is like a 5 pin so you can tell the difference.

you don't even need to take out the glove box either if your hands are on the medium side. i disabled mine using just a flashlight to identify the connector.

i just unplugged it under the hood. just make sure to secure the wire so it doesnt burn

alittle more info

the DRL unit is "above" and to the right of the two "inkjet cartridge" looking things.

unplug and you don't know to worry about the connectors or taping up the ends like you would if you disconnected the pack under the hood.

just look next to the glove box under the dash and you will see it.. don't waste your time in taking apart the glove box.

sweet, thanks guys for posting some pics and very good info, i went to scooby mods and stuff but the posts i checked out just didn't get me enough info, this is my first new car, i kinda jacked up my old civic, so i'm alittle weary on pulling plugs on this car, thanks again!

you know your little black plastic plat under the hood there is a lightgrey connector connected to alittle silver box. pull it down holding the pinch part of the plug. and there you go there off. but make sure you secure that plugg to the harness that its connected to or your turbo will burn it up..

i'll send pick in about an hour from now. 2:35 washington time.

yeah its a lot easier from under the hood, it litterally takes only 30 seconds to do

It's not the same to disconnect the unit under the hood and to disconnect the one by the glovebox, but if you have stock headlights and don't plan on changing them or adding HIDs then the under-hood disconnect will suffice.
Explanation-
The silver thing under the hood is only a dropping resistor. It is used to complete the low beam ground circuit when the DRLs are operating. Unplugging it will open this circuit and effectively disable the DRLs as long as the stock headlight system remains in place.
The unit by the glovebox is the actual DRL control module. Even with the above-mentioned resistor disconnected the control module remains active, so it is still applying power to the headlight circuit. If the lights are modified in any way that provides an alternate ground path the DRL function will return and the lights will come on. Unplugging this module assures that the DRLs are disabled for good no matter what you do with your lights.

Why do you want to disable the lights? It is a safety device.
One way to disable them temporarilly is to pull the parking brake up one notch. I don't think that would activate the brakes.

having the brake up a notch is totally safe, and great for your car. I hope you are not doing that.

and the reason people disable the DRL is because they get HIDs

Not the only reason. In densely populated urban areas they are more of an annoyance than a safety feature.

I know quite a few people who have disabled the DRL's on other makes of cars just for looks. They like driving around at dusk with the parking lights (or STUD lights :D)on.

i pulled my DRL b/c going on to military bases you will blind the guards in the morning. it is a courteous thing you should do. also i like to have my lights off when parking infront of my girlfriend's apartment building (stalls face directly into the bedroom 3 ft away) so i don't wake up the neighbors with my lights shining into their bedrooms.

There is another way to do it. If you open your hood and look on the left side of your engine bay you will see a black cover in front of the strut tower. Take it off, and if you look down you will see the daytime running light module. Just unplug it or take it out completely. This is what it looks like.

The pic above is the underhood resistor module, not the main DRL module. Pull that one only if you never plan to modify your lights, otherwise do the main module by the glovebox.

you can also remove it in the engine bay. it was easier then removing the glove box and stuff. it's infront of the glove box but in the egine bay. a small silver piece and you can unscrew with a phillips screwdriver and unplug it. p.s. the piece is hot so be careful.

I remember that someone cut a wire and installed a switch to turn them on and off. I was going to do this then got lazzy and lost the post. It was behind the glove box. Does any one know how to do this?

So which way is better? Unplugging it from the glove compartment or remove the module completely from the engine bay? thanks!

Brento, thanks for the picture. Your post by far is the clearest one I have found. And I read that to disable from inside rather than the engine bay will protect the plugs once it's unpluged from dirt and moisture.

Let me count the reasons...
#1) Dislike Big Brother watching over me all the time.
#2) Really don't need to attract any more attention to my car.
#3) Others find it annoying.
#4) If you don't live in Sweden it's just plain dumb.
#5) Because if you decide to just leave your low beams on all the time the dash lights (and radio) are too dim to see during the day.
#6) And the BEST is ~ got tired of playing 'remember to turn your tailights on' at dusk ~ count how many Suby's you see running at night with just DRL's!!!
