wsup guys... so my buddy just recently gets his 90' 300zx 2+2 non turbo registerd right... we decide to go racing.. we went to the tracks and did 3 1/4 runs... i beat him on all 3 but on all 3 he was on my front fender towards the end... it was pretty frekin crazy.. we both are completly stock.. well i have a k&N intake but thats it...

Then we did another one on the streets... immediatley at launch, I jumped 2 cars in front of him.. but his Z reeled me in quick status at like 60mph.... he passed me at 85mph...
300zx's are quick.. dang... and his was one of the heaviest non turbo models.. lol... crazy.. those nissans have top end....
so if his non turbo model caught up to me that quick.. i can't imagine the Twin turbo ones.. geez...
So can a stock WRX whoop on a stock 300zx Twin turbo?

You should have easily beat his Z. Those Z are very heavy cars... However, if you raced the TT 300hp Z would be a way different story.. It would rip you from 1st to any gear....

I was cruising around and saw this guy with a SICK rex all white, not too many flashy mods (he knew where to put his $) i'm goin like 50 thru town and he pulls up in the next lane with my little '93 1.8L with no muffler. so he hears me and just drops to 2nd and floord it- gone instantly....I caught him a couple lights later just to hear his BOV and everything (one of the biggest/loudest WHOOSH! I've heard) and pure turbo under WOT ;P

n e way he came up behind a white ZX TT who was closer to stock than the rex but still a TT (only had exhaust that I could tell). they just started draggin down the busiest road in Longmont pretty much neck and neck but this time the dubby would start pullin away from the Z at about 50 and couldn't be caught...then they're comin up on stopped traffic at like 75 or somethin and screech to stops- LOL! They did that like 3 or 4 times- I was behind them the whole time laughin my ass off that a twin turbo just got spanked like a 6 year boy old by that insanely tuned dub-x.....

hahaha thats coo... i'm still gonna steer from those nissan bad boys....I have a AWD crew.... Theirs me (2.5 rs) AWD Eclipse turbo ,3000gt (vr-4), another impreza (but a Wagon L) and an old 944 porsche .......my friend set up a race w/ another crew... the other crew had 3 pickup trucks,1 s13 silvia, and 1 bad ass mother ****ing 300zx TT ... the guy had the hugest exhaust and loud ass blow offs.... the 300zx was pushin 390hp @ 19lbs boost... daaaaamn!! the fastest car in my group is that Eclipse, it has 280hp w/ NOS .... it runs 1/4 in low 13's.. anyway we all raced and all got beat.. we saved our fastest for last, the eclipse vs the Z.... at launch the eclipse was in front, but as soon as the Z pulled in 2nd, he was gone.... GONE!... i was like daaaaaamn!!!! ..... I'm scared of Z's.... even the non turbo's are quick..... Z's pull on like every *** car.. they even whoop on Supra's , Z's have damn good topend....

Don't fear the Zs.....Most are stock and slow. They are great cars but they weight too much for there drivetrains to haul them around. I was able to pull away from a non turbo like a freight train from a 60 mph roll....and I only drive a DODGE Shadow....well it is pretty fast...hehe

i own a 300zx and you are right the top end is a lot better than the bottom end. A lot of you WRX guys have a good chance at one of us in our Z's on a short run but i'd have to say that on the freeway the Z has the top end over the WRX, speaking if both cars are stock. The Z is heavy but lighter than supra and i think 3000grt as well so it does alright in its class i think but highway maybe a different story.

good stories though and drive safe!

I read 0 - 60 for a 300ZX Turbo was 6.0s. I always thought they weren't that fast.... I guess I was wrong.

my cousin has a 300z with about 600hp at the wheels and has not even touched his turbos

he cant drive it in the rain because as soon as the turbos spool BOOM no traction

well that is why about a month ago he wanted to look at selling his Z and buying a "real" Porsche which to him is a air cooled, turbo and AWD but seems now he wants to keep it

just to let everyone know aircooling stopped in 98

Z's are serious tuner cars, you can get lots of power out of them and the 6cylinder engine is potent before the mods begin. They have always been known for being LOUD whether it's 4 or 6 cylinder Z. There are so many damn 280z's in the Bay Area alone, great cars.

my budy's got an 86 300zx(non turbo) that he wants to sell me for $1,000. Its pretty much mint, 80,000 miles, T tops, new clutch etc. But are the 86's any good?how do thier engines compare to the newer body style Zs?how much boost could it handle? Im guessing its probably all cast internals ? Its only a 3.0L v6 but man can that thing light up the tires! o yea... hows the insurance on an old 2 seater like that?

just because it is old doesnt mean it is less durable

A buddy of mine has a twin turbo 300zx. It's nicely modded and very fast.

I used to have a modded '01 Camaro SS and we would usually split when we raced from a roll. From a stop, he would usually take me by half a car.

I traded that car in for my STi and we haven't raced yet (he stores his car for winter.....sissy). I'll throw on a few mods before we tangle again in spring. This time though, I'll favor the standing starts over the rolls. ;)

went to the california speedway recently.. at the drags.. the twin turbo 300ZX's were wooping on camaros.. apparently there was a camaro vs Z grudge since both krew went to drags rollin deep..

as a witness and spectator.. those TT Z's were woopin A S S . beat all the camaro's, all ran 11.5- to 11.9 1/4 times. very sick. this one old skool 280Z had a custom swap with a twin turbo 300ZX engine dropped in. that thing represented for the imports that night with a 10.1 1/4 at 148MPH.

to take on those Z's, WRX's need rebuilt internals, then it will have a chance or then it will own. for example ESX tony rigoli's rebuilt imprezas.

those Z's were using stock internals. as a WRX owner, i i know where i stand.

stock internals can hit up to 12's for an EJ20. :cool:

looks like ultimate racing recently hit 11.8 with ej20 stock internals!! so im wrong about the the previous statement hehe

If you like the quickness Impreza but if your a Top End freak the Z is it. I know some Rexs can be fast but they are not the topend monster the TT Z is!!!

your cousin is full of $hit....300z's stock turbos can't flow near enough to make 500rwhp, let alone anything more. He would have to have upgraded turbos among all the other supporting mods... do me a favor, leave the threads concerning 300's to someone else, you are clueless.

He might not have touched his turbos since he had them put on the car (read: hks 2530's, pe1420 or 1820's, TDO5- 16 or 18g's, or some other custom set-up).

=( ... i got rid of my 2.5 RS ... and bought a 93 NISSAN FAIRLADY 300ZX Twin Turbo ! =) ..... i just ran it at the tracks last weekend... w/ Intake, exhaust, ecu, 555 Injectors, downpipes,clutch, boost jets,boost controller,subframe spacers,grounding sys,silicon rubber hoses and lines, w/ no race gas and ****ty tires I ran a 13.2 at 114mph....60ft. 2.056.........i'm close to 390@the wheels, 410 torque........ i plan on getting the Td05 kit w/ upgraded side mount intercooler , and 3.2 liter internal swap... ...i'm done w/ AWD.... the only problem w/ my Z is that it has no TRACTION control..... i break traction at 4600 RPM .... in 2nd and 3rd gear.... first is to wild to punch in.. so i shift at 3,000 RPM ... damn i love it.. i have low end and top end.. beautiful =D

With that kind of MPH I would think you should be low to mid 12s easy.

yeh.. thats what i assumed too... i did 6 runs.. this was my best.... i need better tires.. the tires i was using at that time were all season performance yokohamas.... i think i'm gonna buy some S03's ....... then my next mods gonna be stiffer suspension for the rear, another problem w/ 300zx's is that i get uncontrollable wheel hop.. its ridiculous... thats one factor i miss about my preza... i could launch at high RPMS and still maintain traction.... i think stiffer suspension, and better tires would help considerably..... but hm... i miss my imprezer =(

stock turbos on a 300zx can only w/ stand 400-500hp ...you'll boost to high and blow ure valves pistons.... etc.... or turbines... anyway... till i can save up for my disco potato turbos i'm gonna run it low on 12psi....

well i was talking to my cousin about this and he said that when he got the car it had bigger turbos on it when i thought they where stock just wish i could remember what size they where he told me at christmas i will ask him next time I see him

lol its all good man ... yeah stock T25 can't hold that much boost...so yeah he musta had upgraded turbo's....
