Unable to fill gas tank (was: Rear anti-sway bar install issue)
I installed a whiteline RSB on my wagon with the stout mounts. When installing it, to tighten the mounts I had to slightly move the fuel pipe. Now when I fill up the car, the auto-shutoff activates when the tank is only about half full. If i start to fill again, it will go for a little bit and then stop again. To get a full tank I have to keep going through this process. When installing the bar it didn't seem like anything got messed up, but something is definately wrong. Can you mess up your fuel pipe?
If anyone has any insight, I would appreciate it.

I had to unbolt my fuel filler tube to install mine. I just opened up the fuel door, took the 3 screws out that hold the fuel spout in place behind the fuel door, and pushed the filler tube out of the way, then after the install, replace the 3 screws holding the filler tube in place, and viola! you're done.
I don't see how you could mess something up doing that install. It's not like you need to actually remove anything related to your fuel filler tube. Are you sure it's not just one of those really sensitive gas pumps that have to be at JUST the right angle or it will shut off like that? I've had a few of those that act like you are describing.

I have had this issue with multiple gas stations, so I am assuming it is something with my car. I only had the problem with the bolt on the front passenger side of the stout mount. I guess I'll try to get back underneath and make sure everything is in place.

This thread was moved to the Maintenance forum because installation of rear anti-sway bar mounts doesn't directly affect the fuel filler neck or gas tank.
It could be a clogged or bent air vent tube located near the filler neck. If it's partially blocked, the nozzle at the gas pump will shut off prematurely. If it needs replacing, refer to the factory service manuals for your model year.
