+1 This is the worst mod for your Subaru.
Do ALL your general maintenance on time everytime.
Don't abuse your transmission or it could get catastrophic
failure. These transmissions are not as strong as the transmissions that are in the Sti's so beware.
Change your motor oil every three months or every three thousand miles
with a good quality dino motor oil or blend motor oil.
Enjoy your Subaru.

Link at bottom of this linked page has recommended maintenance schedule for a MY02 Subaru vehicle. If there's any doubt if your vehicle has a proper maintenance history, I would perform the latest scheduled maintenance according to the vehicle mileage (or have a good shop do it).
There aren't any shortcuts to maintenance. It's essential to perform this work on time to maintain the durability and performance of the vehicle. If the vehicle sees occasional rallycross or track use (road racing, not drag racing) on weekends, maintenance should be performed more frequently than the schedule.

More important than the type of oil is the frequency of oil changes, although I use Mobil 1 5W-30. I use OEM Subaru filters as the filter case is stronger than the cheaper Fram replacements and doesn't crush as easily when trying to remove it. I also use a Fumoto oil drain valve to make for neater, faster oil changes although some owners feel better if they can drain almost every last drop from the crankcase by removing the stock drain plug. Stick with factory-recommended weight of oil. Thicker oil consumes more power to pump it through the oil galleries in the block and may have a small effect on fuel economy.

I want to see pictures of a 2002 rex. They dont make them in the states either. Must have been expensive to import it over.
Oh wait, you mean WRX.
Dont forget the Subaru wave
be nice to the transmission and dont drop the clutch
drive spirited, but dont get to crazy
enjoy it
