What kind of things can a person do to make a 2.5i a WRX and/or STI?

Trade in and buy a WRX. It is going to cost you more money to swap it in than it will for you to just go buy one.

you can buy an older engine than your car with more mileage from a totalled vehicle, buy an ecu, and all sorts of miscellanous parts...

if you want a wrx, trade the 2.5i in

Would I really need a new engine though? Mines 2.5, the same size as an STI. Are there any STI turbo kits floating around?

I'll offer my limited help that i can, the 2.5 you have and the 2.5 on the STi are different blocks. with different internals. you can't just add a turbo and have STi power. You can try but it will end badly. you can go after the N/a power and reach about 220HP or so, and that's not too shabby. the 2.5 RS guys could tell you all your options.

the reason you are getting the "just sell the car" responce is due to the large amounts of labor required to do the swap and when you add that cost to the cost of parts. You're looking at used WRX prices. Now if you have an older pre 2002 2.5rs then i say it's worh it, there's only one way to get one with a turbo'ed block, and that is to give it one. But if you have a 2002+ RS just get a WRX or STi.

Any way, LIC does swaps so if you visit their site or pm them they can give you the break down.

well you could swap the internals, like pistons and rods, but then you still have an open deck. you can swap blocks but i think there is more to it than just swapping it, i believe the wrx block has more wiring. the best thing to do is search and just read up about it. I'm glad there are still people interested in doing such things, there are too many nasioc like people here now.

open vs semi-closed is NOT what is stopping people from turboing the 2.5rs/i.

I am sure the kit will work, but you have to understand that at some point, the car just won't be able to take anymore boost. There have been some lucky enough to get it to 12 or 13 psi of boost, but they are extremely lucky. Chances are you'll end up with no more than 5 or 6 psi. Any more and you risk the block and the internals.
