View Full Version : Cobb Downpipe
N2DFIRE 09-22-2007, 02:55 PM I just bought a 2008 WRX.. There is not much out there yet as far as aftermarket upgrades.. The only upgrade I've been able to find is a downpipe. If I install the Cobb downpipe with the high flow cat, will that cause my check engine light to come on? Does anyone know of any other upgrades I could be doing or anything better to start off with? Thanks.
wimprezax06 09-22-2007, 06:48 PM wow 08!
well you mean the DP is catted DP?
i really cant remember if the CEL going to be on, but just get a CEL fix for really cheap of price. or even make one your self.
hope you enjoy the new wrx
N2DFIRE 09-22-2007, 08:10 PM I was looking into the Cat'd DP because I read about how sensitive WRX's are to DP's with no cats in regards to O2 sensing..
adobeamd 09-22-2007, 08:16 PM all you have to do is put a resistor for the sensor and no more cel

i say it might, and if so, just get the cel fix for like 10 dollar.

So would the Catless DP be better?
Bcheck07 09-22-2007, 09:06 PM i belive cobb makes a full tbe exhaust for ur car, get that, and they might make springs,, i'd get the catted dp but thats what i like,
N2DFIRE 09-22-2007, 09:16 PM After the exhaust and springs what would be the next step?
Bcheck07 09-22-2007, 10:00 PM hope they come out with a accesport map for ur car then get an accesport with a stage 2 flash, then upgrade that little intercooler,, or sway bars,, theres not a hole lot out yet for u car, so maybe rims if u want
Chrisnonstop 09-26-2007, 02:36 PM I'd get sway bars before springs. Unless the ride height really bugs you. Sway bars, springs, 225 tires...the car will feel like it's on rails. Do the 08's come with 17" rims & 225 width tires? My 02 didn't.
N2DFIRE 10-01-2007, 10:37 PM It comes on 17" but I'm not sure of the width.. I know they are narrower then last years models.
charlesj 10-04-2007, 09:29 AM Perrin has an extensive set up parts for that car already. You may want to check with them as well.
On the 02 problem, another fix is to get a spacer and space out the rear 02 which seems to work quite well. I believe the spacer is called a spark plug no fouler or something. It threads perfectly in and pulls the rear o2 slightly out of the stream
Also, on the handling side, the 08 is a completely new beast. I have heard there is significant role, but you may want to talk to jeff at perrin as he was driving their modified 08 around the track a couple weekends ago.
meilers 10-04-2007, 10:13 PM I've driven one, the body roll is intentional. Ever drive an EVO? They have CRAZY body roll. The roll is actually a feature; it keeps the contact patch with the ground consistent without pulling the inside wheel into negative camber. Adding more stiffness does not always add more traction.
N2DFIRE 10-07-2007, 10:37 PM Perrin has parts for the 08? Any idea when Cobb will come out with stuff?
foothill5 04-13-2008, 04:20 AM I also want to go with perrin too but I would really wait until they come out with a catted CARB-ed full DP. but I am really interested in the U.P. anyone tried it out yet? does it really help the spool up?
Lboogie 04-13-2008, 09:23 PM In California there cant be such a thing as a n aftermarket CARB legal catted DP. Anything other than OEM emissions devices wont be CARB kosher. That being said; get whatever catless/catted DP you want, just swap it off when you go in forservice and hope you dont get a ticket for modified exhaust.
