Falken Azenis RT-615 vs. Hankook Ventus R-S2 Z212

so I'm debating between these two tires. On DiscountTire.com the Hankooks are rated as "good" and the Falkens are "better" however the Hankooks are available in the stock 205/55 size where as the Falkens are not (but I think the dealership could recalibrate the speedometer since I'm **** about that kind of stuff).

So who likes what better and why?

go with the 615s
got them in 245/40/18
very sticky tires but not as stiff as the stock re070
once you get used to them not turning in as sharp due to a weaker side wall, they actaully will hold more than the BSre070s

I drive a wrx so I've never experienced the RE070's but right now I'm running RE050's. I'll mark that down as a vote for the Azenis' though

I love the Azenis, but have not driven on the other ones. I would go with one now and try the others next time to compare.
only thing is the Azenis only last around 20-25K

I have the RS-2's on a different car. I like it alot. It's not too hard that over the bumps. I don't know of the 615's, but if it's similar to the 215's, I would go for Hankooks for everyday driving. It won't let you down on auto-x as well. Them are pretty sticky.

yeah, cause our suspension setups are so similar

I'll probably go with the hankooks this time. I have to see if I have enough tread left on the re050s for Latina Seca though cause I'd like to be able to kill those off there rather than the new tires

good point, but you can still drive a car with the falken's on it.
yeah, not good to put new tires on then go to laguna seca, unless you have two sets.

I think I have roughly 4/32nds on my re050s so those should hold up for LS but I'll be running re92s until then and I'll probably by the hankooks 1 per paycheck

You said your car should be done by mid-December Forrest? I think there's always a NASA track day 3rd weekend in Jan but I'll ask Marcel since he always goes to them

The azenis has more overall grip and slightly better turn in but tend to get greasy faster.

The Hankook has a slight weaker sidewall, but is more consistent and cheaper

I have run both (and Michelin PS2's and RE070s). One thing that hasn't been mentioned is that the Falkens heat cycle out rapidly- meaning they get worse at the end of their lifespan. I.e. even if the tread is gone and it squirms less the compound is already tired and worn and isn't as sticky as new. It's noticeable only at driving levels that one would not normally encounter on the street. The Hankook compound seems to be more stable.

To back this up, here's some empirical data: my Azenis wore from 8/32nds to 4/32nds in the same amount of time that it took them to get from 4/32nds to 2/32nds. Same driving habits. Interesting? I asked 8-6 Aaron and he said this was pretty typical.

Now I get to mount up RE-01R's for the rainy season.
