looking at '02 WRX w/EJ257 transplant, ProTUNED (was: Have 1 Question Need Opinions)
HEY WHATS UP.. MY QUESTION IS IM ABOUT TO BUY A 2002 wrx with a 2.5 ver. 8 sti motor with 7k on it and 52 on the car. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF ITS WORTH 19,500.. GUY SAID AFTER GETTING IT PRO TUNNED IT SHOULD BE AT 530 HP THE ONLY PROBLEM HE SAID IS THAT ITS HARD TO GET IT INTO 2ND GEAR AT LOW RPM'S...I WOUNDER WHY THAT WOULD BE UNLESS 2ND GEAR HAS BEEN ABUSED ABIT...BUT LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK IF I SHOULD GET INTO THIS CAR OR NOT..THANKS

I wouldn't buy a modded car unless I know the owner personally. You have no idea how good (or safe) the tune is unless you know the tuning shop and can verify the work was actually done. Stock 5-speed transmission would not be very dependable with a modified engine with that sort of output.
Finally, for an EJ25 turbo engine to make over 500 hp, whether measured at the wheels or flywheel, it would have to be extensively modified. If the car is for sale, why is the owner just now getting it tuned?
Pass on this car.

well I got the car for $12,500 it had 60k miles on the motor and I know the owner
well it was a great deal but I was not used to driving a wrx with that much power
so the first week I had it I was racing a evo and I blew 2nd gear so then I had to fix that well about $7k later I have a spec C non dccd trany and a plated ls r160 with sti axles in the front and moded wrx axles in the back with a custom drive line, ok so that was great. so now I think to my self ok I got a trany that I can playwith that is the whole reson for the trany well 2 weeks after I get it runing I blow an axle. I did not know it at the time becaust the breat was really close to the diff so I could not tell it was broken (being held in buy the axle boot) so I gat a new rearend $900. so I get a new axle and I am back on the road for 3weeks when I think to my self hey I can put a little more $ in to my car so I do a header and up pipe. so I thought I will wate a few days and get my car tuned agen well I guess the car was already a very agresive tune and the two new parts just leand me out a little and now my car blows smoke. I know great right so now I am looking at a new block and new heads or a valve job well with labor I am lookin at
stage 1 sti 25 for 2799
and eather a set of V7 sti heads for just under 2k of a valve job for 600
any how I am just trying to show you what it is like to own a moded car. well if you are going to drive the hell out if it but no one can tell me that the own a moded car and dont race it. that is the hole F ing point
I would not sell my car for the world so dont get me rong but I am strugaling with money because of it and my GF just thinks I am crazy for puting so much money into a car that I cant drive that much. but that is what we all do.
anyways I would say if the car is not going to be a daly driver and you have the extra money than go for it. but if you are like most people and you are trying to have a fast dayly driver and you are going to take out a lone to buy the car than I say you are beter off going out and geting some payments on a used sti from a dealer with a waranty. and do some minror stuff to it to just have some fun that way you can drive it every day and not have problems and trust me you will spend that extra 10k in no time on that wrx and with an sti you get so much more 6 speed with dccd brimbo breaks beter hubs if you go with a 05 or newer lighter
r180 good suspention plus you get the sti seats and the beter headlights (as in hid not just for looks)
any way sorry for going on for so long but I just want to help buy giveing you a look at what it is like to own a car like that. it is one of the greatest things but it is alot of out of pocket money. and if you are like most people it is hard to come up with grand after grand from you pocket just to get your car back on the road
