Why open the light. Spray the outside and clear coat over it.

Is there a better tint out there than NiteShades? That stuff turned my other lights purple! DOH.

I think www.rockblocker.com (or is it .net ?) has vinyl tail light tint film. I was thinking of trying this out since its easily removed, comparitively.

If you want to open them it works the same way as painting your headlights. You have to bake them at a certain temperature until you can split it open. Here is a little bit of a guide for the headlights but its the same process http://www.iwsti.com/forums/how-install/116337-diy-painting-angel-eyes-2006-7-wrx-sti.html
If you dont want to do that then Bluebatmobile.net sells the vinyl overlays for the outside of the light. They are dirt cheap too. I have yet to put mine on will be in a week or so. Waiting till the summer season. Depending on how well they hold up on my car will decide whether i open mine up to paint them or not.
Lastly I highly recommend not spraying that stuff on the outside of your lights. With weathering and drying mine turned out horribly. And it is brutal to get that stuff off. Good Luck.
