Daios 11-26-2002, 04:53 PM they stiffen the upper part of the suspension and prevent it from flexing in, but the fronts are already close to the firewall so they won't make a big difference. the rears will help more since they flex more. plus a lot of people think they look nice under the hood and in the trunk :p since they are nice and shiny, colorful, or made of carbon fiber :D Daios (Day-ohhss) Arcanum 11-26-2002, 07:40 PM Trunk monkeys like to do pullups on them to stay in shape. It "ties" the car together more. Stiffens things up. Get some front and rear bars and connect your subframe. Now that's nice :) /\rcanum imprezton 11-26-2002, 08:34 PM But I don't have a trunk ;) 18hrwrx 11-27-2002, 12:11 AM Originally posted by imprezton But I don't have a trunk ;) Sorry to hear that:LOL: Kevin M 11-27-2002, 12:20 AM Originally posted by imprezton But I don't have a trunk ;) Don't worry, trunk monkeys will adapt to the open environment of the wagon, provided they still have sufficient quantities of beer. imprezton 11-27-2002, 12:41 PM Now I'm reminded of the joke about the truck driver with a monkey on his dashboard, who picked up a hitchhiker. Scubaru 11-27-2002, 04:54 PM Remember that besides keeping the chassis stiffer, It also helps keep your suspension geometry true(r) by minimizing deflection. But they are just a small part of the suspension as a whole. -scu N/A 11-27-2002, 10:50 PM I'm not running one in the front. Mostly cause of some clearance problems with the TMIC. I'd use the 2 part hardened foam to fill the cars frame and rocker panels. I've used it in the past and loved the results. I've already got a kit of it waiting to go into the RS-T. One is the standard type of foam like used in packing material and the other chemical is a special hardening chemical that allows the foam to expland and harden in when its in an enclosed space. After its in the car its not going anywhere. It stiffens the cars frame up and takes out alot of the body flex. N/A 11-30-2002, 02:46 AM The amount of weight it added is so small its not worth attempting to measure. Its as light as standard spray foam only much harder. It also doesn't have a very long working time so once you start you had better work fast. Make sure you've got everything prepped before hand. Dick Fitzwell 11-30-2002, 02:49 AM that is definetly a cool idea, i will have to remember that for next spring when it warms up again. N/A 11-30-2002, 02:51 AM Also see the other strut brace thread about the rear brace that has the additional V middle section as well as preload. V6turboTA 11-30-2002, 03:40 AM Cusco makes a 3 point rear brace. Nice looking piece, I imagine it helps a little too ;) ~v6 N/A 11-30-2002, 04:37 AM CUSCO was actually one of the companies I was thinking of. ScoobyBoy 12-04-2002, 10:36 PM i agree that a front strut isnt needed, although it does make the engine bay look nicer. if you want to have a strut that does something invest it on the rear. the firewall in the front is stiff enough, its the rear thats a little soft. :D |
