It sounds awesome. I was really concerned that 1 10" sub wouldn't be enough for the wagon cabin space, but it fills the space and hits hard. I have the same woofer in my Sport Trac which has a smaller cabin, but it sounds much better in the WRX. It probably also has something to do with the Helix 5 channel that's powering the whole system. ;) Originally posted by nqwan that picture would be perfect if the monkey had a beer bottle in one of his hands He's too busy holding on to the strut bar for dear life! nqwan 11-27-2002, 12:55 PM Originally posted by wrXratd He's too busy holding on to the strut bar for dear life! lol! your monkey is a wuss! the car isn't even moving and he's "holding on to the strut bar for dear life!" :p Arcanum 11-27-2002, 09:21 PM Wussie monkey, get that thing some beer. wrXratd, thanks for the link, I'll look into it.:) /\rcanum STiNightFall 11-28-2002, 01:57 PM i got nothing hahaha Egan 11-29-2002, 08:10 PM Originally posted by nqwan: lol! your monkey is a wuss! the car isn't even moving and he's "holding on to the strut bar for dear life!" Can you explain how you created that? I understand fiberglass and I think I could come up with a way to get that done (thinking foil or cheap sheet metal the tire for the mold) but what about the top piece? Is it wood or something else? Any advice for someone trying to copycat you? Thanks! Egan 01-01-2003, 11:49 AM Sorry, but the guys at Paradyme Car Audio built it for me. I don't know how they did it. I was thinkin about getting a different sub which has a slightly bigger mounting depth. I am wondering if you chose that sub because of its depth, or if there is room to spare. Any idea? Thanks! :) BB (Sorry I don't have the car yet, I get it at the end of this month) Egan 01-03-2003, 10:06 PM No, I don't have any idea. I gave them the idea for the design and they suggested the sub because of the limited air space. If you want any outside dimensions, I can take them for you. Just let me know. subee-sound 01-05-2003, 09:33 PM since i had seen my name mentioned earlier, thought i'd throw out some pics of a couple of my enclosures. i have really been thinking about spare tire enclosures for the wagons, i love how they look, and use up no space. subee-sound 01-05-2003, 09:34 PM WRX sedan: baudbrn 01-06-2003, 02:54 PM Another question for you or anyone else wrxrated and company. Anyone have any good ideas about where I could hide this amp: http://www2.yewnix.net/~mmiga/255a_2.jpg Its like 23 inches long and by comparing it with the helix amp that wrxrated has, its not gonna fit under the seat. I do not have the car yet, but i'd like to know if anyone has any ideas for hiding this beast. Basically I'm going for "invisible" to the eye. I'm gonna make the spare tire sub because you won't be able to tell its there. I am getting speakers that will fit in the door so that you cannot tell they have been upgraded. I just need an amp that will hide so that no one can see that and I am good to go! Any suggestions/Ideas? Baud "My audio will be like a ninja" burn P.S. Nice enclosures Subee.. but I think wrxrated takes the cake (since its completely invisible! :) ) Egan 01-06-2003, 03:16 PM You could always mount it on the back of the rear seats. That's what I was going to do if the Helix didn't fit under the seat (it barely did). This presents a problem if you get a wagon and intend on folding the seats down and using the cargo space. The amp might also fit in the tool compartment between the rear seats and the spare tire. Or you could just buy a smaller amp... ;) subee-sound 01-06-2003, 06:45 PM when i originally set out making the wrx enclosures, i posted a poll asking where people would like the enclosures at. i had 1 out of about 50 say spare tire well. so i never made it, but i really liked the idea, so i will start playing with some stuff here pretty quick. kevin www.subee-sound.com Egan 01-07-2003, 06:48 AM Kevin, I'd like to see this become a mass-produced product. Let me know if you need any dimensions or detailed pics. Mike LTrainSVT 01-07-2003, 11:26 AM Kevin, Just wondering, can you make the wrx sedan enclosures a little thinner, or will it not fit? Larry subee-sound 01-07-2003, 04:33 PM to get anywhere near a good amount of airspace, it needs to be that size. it is currently about .9 cu ft total airspace. as for the spare tire stuff, i want to find an easier way to make them rather than glassing them in. when you do it with fiberglass, you can only make one at a time from a mold, which would take some major time to make alot of them. however, you never know what will happen. kevin www.subee-sound.com baudbrn 01-07-2003, 05:25 PM I know this may get some flame responses, but you all have been real cool so far. I have a few "n00b" questions about car audio installations. If you subee or wrxrated or whoever doesn't mind me asking. 1) When I am wiring up my head unit, should i just tape the ends of the leads that go to the old speaker connects? My HU has all preamp outputs (that I will use to run to the amp). Does anyone have any special suggestions for this? Just clip them away and tape it or something else? 2) Does anyone know how I might go about screwing the back of the HU to the firewall. The WRX has the double din, so i should have some room to play in there. I'd like to make it so if some jackass wants to steal the HU he will have his work cut out for him! :P 3) Do you have any suggested places that sell mounting brackets/etc? I am going to put 5 1/4 inch speakers in the doors (that are 6 1/2 inch holes). Crutchfield says the infinitys wont fit in the 6 1/2 inch holes so ill get slightly smaller ones and make them fit. If I can buy a solution that'd be better than rigging something myself. 4) Any other general comments/suggestions for me? I'm getting really close now and am hoping to make the install as precisely executed as possible! :) Thanks! Baudburn 1) If your HU has both preamp outs and speaker outs and you only want to use the preamp outs, you can simply tape the ends of the wires separately. 2) I have no idea. 3) I ran 5.1/4" Focals without any problems. See the attached pic. I think the stereo shop must have built custom spacers. Egan 01-08-2003, 07:10 AM Here's a close-up of the speaker and spacer: xDragoonx 01-08-2003, 12:47 PM Dont tape anything behind the hu Because tapes comes loose and it just looks ghetto!!!!!!!Use a wiring harness and crimp cap all unused wires so that way you dont get any shorts and damage the car!!!!!!!!!!!! jerome02rs 01-08-2003, 10:22 PM If anyone wants a spare tire fiberglass enclosure just let me know - I'm currently making them. I can make it in fiberglass ($200 plus shipping), carbon fiber or carbon/kevlar (which would cost more) but there isn't any real advantage to a carbon version other than looks and a little improvement in stiffness- I've just read that some people wanted carbon. What I would need to know is what type of sub you you would like to put in it as the mounting depth and volume is critical. Really any sub that will work in about 1/2 cubic ft. will work just fine. I can raise the baffle height to accept a deeper driver and/or give more volume to the enclosure. How deep is the spare inside the well on the wagon? What is the distance between the top of the spare and the cover? I don't know this as mine was made for my sedan. The tub is made from multiple layers of fiberglass cloth and matting- it's pretty darn solid. It's molded with a 3/4 inch MDF ring in place. The baffle board is then glued/screwed/sealed to the ring. The baffle board is 3/4 inch MDF and has a countersunk cutout for the sub so it doesn't stick out above the baffle board surface. What you don't see in the photo is that there will also be a layer of sound dampening material on the inside of the tub. baudbrn 01-29-2003, 09:28 PM Hey wrXrated, Whew.. I just got done making and installing the sub enclosure. It's all installed and looks great! I really hope you don't mind me copying your design, but I know that your system sounds great, and it seems to be designed with the same attributes I am looking for. Everyone can check out pictures and leave comments on my webpage. Check out http://flatland.staticky.com/modules.php?set_albumName=album02&op=modload&name=gallery&file=index&include=view_album.php. This is served off my home PC on a cable modem, so sorry if the upload speeds are less than wonderful. At any rate I have a few more questions. I am working on installing Focal speakers in the doors. (again I hope you dont care that I copied you). I guess I am going to have to fashion my own spacer, but I am wondering if they had to do any modification to your door panel to make the speakers fit. Did they cut throught the door or does it just fit? It is so shallow in there because of the glass. How annoying. More importantly. Can someone tell me how the hell you get those door bezels off. The door bezel is the ring around the door handle that subaruparts tells you to pry off. There has to be a better way as my fingers are currently numb and I only managed to get one of them off only to find out that the speaker would not fit. Great. If anyone knows how I can get this off could you let me know? Also do you know if subaru sells the rings? They are just dinky plastic pieces so I'd almost like to break them off and then just put new ones in. Does anyone know where I could pick some up? Thanks! Any comments on my install/advice on my current situation would be greatly appreciated!
