"U.S. unit masters art of counterinsurgency
Regiment praised for tactics against fighters, treatment of detainees"

This is the leadership that needs to have a voice in our middle-East policy, and most importantly our military counterinsurgency strategy.

I am an admirer, but haven't fully concluded my opinion on the guy. While I've watched his press conferences on CSpan, which he is very adept at, and read reports as to how successful his regiment is; I still can't get beyond his book. Not that I'm critical of what he wrote so much, as the politics behind it.

Also, although I can't disagree with the statements from the very unimpeachible, but ambiguous "US military experts conducting a internal review", I will tell you that what he is doing is not any different than every other ground combatant commander is doing over there; albeit just....better.

Lastly, of all of the negative reports about what certain leaders and units have done negligently over in Iraq, you haven't heard a single case where Infantry or Armored Tasks Forces have acted inappropriately. At least not Army units. Brigade and battalion commanders have so much control of their men during preparatory training and during execution 'on the ground' and are sincerely emphasizing the Law of the Land Warfare, the Code of Conduct, and the Rules of Engagement. In general, they are truly influencing their soldiers to act as professional soldiers. This is true now and has been since well before the Global War on Terrorism.
