View Full Version : First time at the track...not to bad
Porkchop-WRX 03-09-2003, 08:29 AM Wow I was surprised the car went that fast. Just wanted to let every one here know.
This was my first time at the track with this car by the way.
Runs are as follows:
14.33 at 94 2.1 60 ft.
13.97 at 96 2.0 60 ft.
13.82 at 96 1.9 60 ft.
I know I can bring down the 60 ft more if I dump nstead of the slip then dump that I was doing, but thats hard on the car. The only mods I got are:
Turboxs BOV
Xs engineering CAI
Boost set at 15.5
WRacergirlX 03-09-2003, 09:28 PM Were you at E-town this past Saturday? Or Atco?
I didn't realize changing the boost levels that little bit can get you into the 13's... unless I'm doing something wrong..
Impressive 60' though!!
krillz 03-09-2003, 10:10 PM i was at etown, was that you in the blue sedan who ran the 14.2 Racergirl? i had the black stock sedan with the fog covers. when i spoke to you i had only run a 15.0 but later i ran this:
dial 14.60
rt .488
60 2.005
330 5.941
1/8 9.27
mph 73.81
1000 12.100
1/4 14.53
mph 90.00
So im happy!
krillz 03-09-2003, 10:13 PM oh yeah, and i must say that your car is super clean!
WRacergirlX 03-09-2003, 10:32 PM Yea that was me, lol.. After I ran the 14.2 I dialed that in and messed it up with a nice launch ... broke my time w/ a 14.11 and had even let off the throttle b/c I knew I was moving too quick.... which means I CAN go FASTER!! But still, I lost... oh well, practice makes perfect!!
My times for my last two runs were:
R/T .508
60' 2.107
1/4 14.27 @ 95.81
R/T .510
60' 2.019
1/4 14.11 @ 92.94
Good job w/ the 14.5!! That's better than what I did stock!! See you soon!
krillz 03-09-2003, 10:35 PM oh man, i woulda never let off the throttle, screw the contest....
so you on like riiiiight on the verge of breaking into 13s... very very nice!
did you say you got about 25 whp from the txs exhaust?
Porkchop-WRX 03-10-2003, 12:32 AM Yeah these runs were at e-town. WRacergirlX i talked to you there. How weird is it that you are on these boards. Its really cool to see you here. Anyway I (The guy who said that I saw you run last year with a 14.8)was with my friend (the guy you said you saw run a 13.0 last year) Hasan aka Hassasin on this board.
I saw you break out that last run. I broke out too but I was just happy to go that fast.
I did talk to a lot of WRX owners there a might of spoken to some of you, but hopefully I will see everyone there again. Especially you WRacergirlX, its nice to see a girl racing there for a change. Keep up the good work and yes turning up the boost will net you some better times along with a higher trap speed.
WRacergirlX 03-10-2003, 10:54 AM I will break into the 13's sometime this week at E-town..
When is the track open for time trials anyways? I have to check into that.
I was caught in a bind on Saturday I didn't know what to do. It was my first time bracket racing so it was a good learning experience. It's kinda cool I broke my time, but I could have been going a lot faster, or just slightly slower to win the bracket.. anywho..
Since you guys are running mid-low 13's I have a question for you: What is the best RPM to shift into 4th to maintain the powerband? Last year I wasn't even close to redlining 3rd by the end of the track. This year I hit rev-limiter in 3rd w/ the 14.2 @96mph.. oops.. I wasn't expecting that to happen. I'm learning!!
And the TurboXS exhaust has given at least 30WHP, I haven't dynoed it but the times on the track are quite revealing.
Lastly I just wanted to say thanks to the guys who took a little time out to talk to me about their cars. Many don't take me seriously and it's really something when a guy doesn't mind answering 100 questions from an amature 'tuner' like myself. I really do appreciate it.
See you soon!!
krillz 03-10-2003, 11:19 AM yeah, i would like to be mid to high 13s by the end of the summer, hopefully by the 23rd i will have a turboback and run maybe low 14s???? maybe im being too optimistic, lol
then i wanna get a vishnu stage zero mapped for a stage 1 w/ silicon hoses and and hopefully maybe run a mid/high 13
much faster than i ever would have went if i kept the civic, lol
good luck running the 13, im sure you can do it with the right launch, shift points, and weather.... try popping your hood before you line up, my underhood temps were hitting 130 plus, and by just opening my hood it would shoot down to about 80-90 degrees, i dont know how much of a time diff that would make..
but it definetly cant hurt
keep us updated
SSheavy 03-11-2003, 02:36 PM Hey guys! I'm kinda new to this WRX stuff, but these cars are f-a-s-t. The reason I signed up was to chat sometimes and now it seems that I go to the same track as some of you guys: ENGLISHTOWN!
I must say that I was really impressed with a silver WRX on Saturday at the Importvs. Detroit Muscle Shootout. I so think that they should have called it the Import vs. Import Shootout. That's all I saw.
I don't remember seeing You there Porkchop or WRacergirlX. I was a spectator myself. That rarely happens cause I race most of the time. I'm the big guy with the IMP.
Come and check out our forum sometime too. Impalassforum.com
Later...
WRacergirlX 03-11-2003, 03:00 PM Sure.. everyone remembers Hassassin... lol.
SSheavy 03-11-2003, 04:32 PM I'm sure you'll be rememorable too...Someday. LOL
WRacergirlX 03-11-2003, 10:20 PM So come on guys!! Come out Weds night!!!! ((weather pending))
Wow, that's tonight already isn't it... I need sleep..
krillz 03-12-2003, 04:58 AM let me know if you break 13.9 tonite, good luck!
WRacergirlX 03-12-2003, 10:32 PM Whooo-hooo..
R/T .534
60' 2.013
1/4 13.9 @ 96 mph
And I got four runs in... niice..
krillz 03-13-2003, 05:15 AM SWEET!!! nice time!
SSheavy 03-13-2003, 04:11 PM CONGRATS! I know you're happy as a clam.
I was trying for 13's last year, but had no traction. I'm gonna try again with slick or drag radials and see what happens.
You know If you had drag radials on your ride I'm sure your 60 foot times and overall times would be way better.
I think it's a tenth for every point down on a 60.
So, you did a 2.0-60 this time.
a 1.7-1.8-60 should net you a 13.6 or 13.7
I have a question to ask. If you have a Turbo and bump up the boost, then wouldn't you run much faster?
If that is true then If you're at the tree and you hold your left foot on the brake and the right on the gas and load up till you a specific rpm like your converter flash stall. Then when you take off your turbo should be spooled up, RIGHT?
That's only if you have a AUTO.
Another question. What are your converter stall speeds?
You should try this at the track and I'm sure that you'll get out of the hole like a bat outta hell.
Disregard if you know this already.
Please forgive my ignorance of turbos and the WRX.
Good run too...
krillz 03-13-2003, 10:00 PM by converter flash stall i think you mean, the fuel cut? i think thats at about 7300 rpms or so, and while its possible to launch at that rpm with our awd, the car wouldnt last long...
turboxs is coming out with a software upgrade for their utec that will let you sit at a specific rpm with the throttle completely down and build boost on the line... and you can also leave the throttle down between shifts so bosst doesnt drop
you can build boost on the line without any gadgets, but me since im totally stock, i cant even get out of vacuum, so the benefits are probably null, what i do do is revv the **** out of the engine right beforhand to get the turbo spinnig,
they also have anti-lag systems which drop bits of unburnt fuel into the exhaust line and it in turn ecplodes creating afterfire and keeping the turbo spooled, ive heard that some rally cars run at 1 bar at idle????
WRacergirlX 03-13-2003, 10:45 PM Anti-lag systems I think may be related to the sequential-trani set-up..... I heard about it too, but couldn't find a damn thing for proof!!
Do I really NEED drag radials?? My boyfriend has been trying to talk me into those for the past month.. I keep thinking more practially like WHAT IF IT RAINS.... Toyo Proxes may be better for a daily driven car.
