DBA announces the most significant breakthrough in disc brake rotor design for decades.

The new DBA Kangaroo Paw delivers significantly improved braking performance. Even under extreme braking conditions.

The innovative Kangaroo Paw design runs cooler, is stronger, and outperforms traditional straight vane disc rotors.

So what makes it so good?

A car’s braking system is one of the most critical areas in terms of vehicle safety and performance. Being able to stop safely and reliably, time after time, under heavy braking conditions can mean life or death.

Every time the brakes are applied massive pressure is built up through the braking system. A 35Kg force applied at the brake pedal is multiplied hundreds of times before being applied at the disc rotors, creating friction and extreme heat.

Traditional Straight Vane
http://socalevo.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10753/straight_vane.jpg

The extreme heat can cause disc rotors to warp, distort and in some cases fail. Traditionally, heat is removed as air flows through the rotor passing between straight ‘vanes’.

However, the straight vane design does not provide the ideal conditions for heat to be dissipated and tends to create an unwanted ballooning effect.

DBA Kangaroo Paw Vane
http://socalevo.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10753/kanga_vane.jpg

The Kangaroo Paw features 144 precisely positioned diamond and tear-drop pillars. More than just making the disc stronger, the pillars provide a greater surface area than traditional straight vane designs. Greater surface area means more effective heat dissipation and cooler running disc rotors. The Kangaroo Paw disc rotors will quickly remove the heat, cool the discs, and return to optimal operating temperatures ready for the next braking application.

Cool air flows in from the centre of the disc, while hot air is forced to the outside of the disc - regardless of rotational direction. The pillars provide greater strength across the disc rotor and reduce the tendency for disc distortion.

More efficient cooling improves brake pad and disc rotor life, and helps reduce brake fade.

DBA 'Heat-Sensitive' markings

on DBA 4000 & 5000 series disc rotors.

Heat-Sensitive’ markings are placed on the outer edge of a disc rotor and are used to monitor the core temperatures that are achieved during braking application.

Why are the 5000 series "not recommended for racing"? Why else would I run $700 2 piece rotors on my STi?

On the 5000 series gold hats, are the hats actually made of gold?

at $7400.00, I'd expect them to be...

Cross drilled rotors are not recommended for racing, they look cool but that's about it. There are tons of posts about that on this forum. I think that's what the vendor means.

Because all Cross/drilled rotors tend to crack under extreme heat! Most race cars will run slotted rotors, some might be like 20 + slots, but no drilled!

Think of it as if you are strong enough to brake the rotors w/ your hand. But the rotors are build to well, so u drilled holes in the rotor making the rotor itself weaker and intern you broke the rotor!

I realize that, but the post was not clear if the "not recommended for racing" was for just the cross drilled/slotted or the slotted ones as well. The wording could scare away potential customers.

As a testimonial, my DBA slotted rotors have held up well so far. They're on an 04 STi with Ferodo DS2500 pads. :)

because it cools down the rotors! All rotors will be used, so some might end earlier. Im not saying that all drilled rotors will crack, but it tend to crack under extreme high temps
