View Full Version : 05 STI, cai or short ram?
wrxout 08-04-2005, 04:12 PM hello yall i love in houston and it gets hellla hot over here, i posted about what type of intake, i had my mind set on k&n typhoon short ram but a buddy on clubwrx told me this.
the CAI on the STI works fine. ram air = possible hot air intake = possible detonation you wouldnt otherwise get from stock/cold intake...
that looks to have a heat shield but even then its possible.
do a SEARCH on the K&N and read up on it. but most CAIs work fine on the STI and youll be getting a tune anyways so youll be fine.
my mods are:
Engine Mods:
Hks Ti-Carbon Catback
Godspeed Downpipe
Ported waste gate
UTEC Stage2
Walbro 255lph Fuel pump
HKS SSQV BOV
1 Step colder spark plugs
thank you please help me make a good concios decision.
PKSJ4 08-04-2005, 04:24 PM i have kn short ram. thought i would get litte gains but dyno'ed the same with stock intake.i say just put a drop-in kn and youll get the same out of it.
PKSJ4 08-04-2005, 04:29 PM i have stage2 vishu, upgade top mount. thought maybe kn short ram would give me more hp's. i was wrong. as for bov's. there just for sound. keep it 100% or no less than 50/50.i have the forged 100% cause im boosting around 24.
wrxout 08-04-2005, 04:44 PM would u suggest k&n cai?
PKSJ4 08-04-2005, 04:52 PM i say stay with the stock in take and spend the 50$ on a kn drop-in.i put a kn drop-in before i wasted my money on the typhoon.i still have my drop-in, if your in my area ill hook you up.
wrxout 08-05-2005, 08:20 AM i have a drop in but intake gets to hot, i want something better, i have enugh mods to get a bigger turbo but not yet.
PKSJ4 08-05-2005, 10:20 AM what drop in do you have? if you dont have kn drop-in, i would get one. thats all your going to need. any other mod for the intake is just for looks.BTW,shiv at vishnu does all my tuning. he told me to stay with stock intake, but i researched the kn cai and short ram (typhoon). they both showed that i would get some gains. so i went out a bought the typhoon. should of listen to shiv.
isr96 08-05-2005, 10:28 AM stock intake seems to be the way to go if your still stock turbo.
4080wrx 08-06-2005, 06:53 AM niether........spend your money somewhere else like a turbo back exhaust and a engine management

no need for name calling my friend. Honestly your at the point where the next step would be a new turbo plus supporting mods. If your going to run a fmic, most of them will require a new intake. Hope to hear in the future about a new turbo going in there....:D

if you want something new, does it really have to be a power mod? I really would steer away from an intake until one is needed...
thunder_sti 08-10-2005, 02:59 PM I would go with perrin or APS short ram.
ultimatesti 08-10-2005, 08:40 PM I would go with perrin or APS short ram.
stock intake with kn drop-in is most effective.period.
