Sorry if this is a N00bish question , but what exactly is the cool looking ring thing on the STi's shifter "shaft" below the knob..... And is it possible to get that knob/ring thingy on a wrx 5 speed shifter? I doubt it but wanted to ask anyways cause ive searched and searched and i havent found a single answer to that.

Moving on... ive seen the momo leather knob , its alright, but for my preferences its too low... i like how the STi shift knob is alot higher due to the longer shaft. The seats in the wrx sit up high and i hate reaching very low to shift, also i prefer the look of a shifter sitting up high. I like very tall shifters and is wondering if anybody else has any suggestions on a leather shift knob (ball type) that would extend higher... so far i have only found this and i dont know if it will even fit the subaru : http://store.yahoo.com/hopup1/spxshkn.html

it looks like it would stand tall but i dunno for sure... and its not even full leather...

So if ya guys have any clue what im talkin about and think you can help me find what im lookin for, please post.

Thanks

looks like you've found it. thats the tallest shifer ive seen to date.
im not too sure.. but i think that ring on the STi shifter is the revers lock out ring for the 6 speed. i doubt it will fit your shifter.

That is indeed the reverse lockout, and all the times i've taken off the boot to clean it/opened the center console i have not really seen how it comes off/goes on. I suppose you can make a ring and stick it on your shifter though.....
