What happened to Ferrari in F1?

I'm a casual Formula One fan, and I try to catch as many races at my Tivo records for me.

I enjoy a dominanting performance the likes of which Michael Schumacher and Ferrari have given us the past score of seasons.

What happened in the offseason to hamper Ferrari (both Michael and Rubens) and/or allow the competitition to leapfrog Scuderia in performance (Renault and Mercedes)?

Any rules changes or was it just time that everyone else got it right and Ferrari mixed up the firing order?

The rules changed for F1. Tire changes are no longer allowed unless they blow out. And each engine must be used for 2 race weekends (so 2 sets of practices, qualifying and raceday). And down froce was reduced by about 40%or 50% (not sure on exact figure). These rule changes made it dificult for Ferrari to stay withing regulations and stay competitive. The main problem seems to be the problem with the Bridgestone tires which aren't as competitve as Michelin (excpet at Indianapolis) All teams are having reliability issues including Renault and Mclaren who are currently 1 and 2 above Ferrari at 3 in the constructors table. Ferrari is only in 3rd so they could still pull through with some great luck.

Thanks for the breakdown! Amazing how seeemingly little tweaks to the rules here and there can turn out to be so dramatic.

I personally don't like Michael Schumacher. Farrari plays favorits with Michael and Rubins feels like his ***** and gets no respect in return. Prime example: Indianapolis. Michael aslo trys to cheat like the new rules dont apply to him. In fact the very first race of the 2005 season he intentionally wrecked into Mark Webber durring qualifying (so he would have a new engine & tires for the race) and had to make a public oppology.

Last year Miachael Schumacher stated that he would not retire from F1 untill someone took the championship from him. 2005 seems like the year so far... the only race Farrari has won is Indy.

His brother is better in my oppinion, allthough the Williams BMW Team didn't support him or Montoya for crap last year.

Love Montoya because he hates Michael, and he drives like Alex Zanardi (god bless).

Renault kicked *** last year and is killing Farrari... I would love to see Heikki Kovalinen drive for Renault in 2006.

Peace
Drew

kovalinen is over rated IMOP, there are better young drivers in his field that are out there right now.

True Schumacher is really getting his hat handed to him this year but its going to be a very long time before anyone does what he has done. The only one in todays time that can rival him in driving is Todd Kristiansen ? with his mulitiple winning streak at the 24hrs of Lemans and that's apples an oranges. BTW the rule change was setup to stop Ferrari and Schumacher and the tire change rule is the dumbest and most dangerous thing I've ever seen. "Oh no they took away my extra tyres"
