So the big Hamilton meet is 7/17 this year. Last year, Salty set up a caravan that was the bees knees.
Lets repeat!
Who all is going, and who would be down to caravan? The pre-meet spot is in a park at the base of Hamilton this year so we'll need to figure out a route and some pick up points for people along the way. I think this will work again this year.
Last year a few of us met up in Natomas, then headed to EGKK to pick up some people, then we stopped again to pick up some more (forget where), then we headed to the pre-meet location. Lets go 80 this year - the freeways are better and the route contains less road/stoplights to hold us up and split us apart.
I propose that the Sac guys meet at the 76 off Reed Ave (it's actually located on Stillwater Rd.). This way people can gas up if they need to, and there's a Starbucks right there. The 76 is has a full market, though I think it was closed last year when we met up because it was so early on a Sunday - either way you can still get gas and a coffee :D. For now, let's plan to meet at Reed at 7:30am so we have enough time to get gas/coffee, and then meet up at spots along the way.
So here's the route from Stillwater Rd. to the pre meet location, Dave and Busters in Milpitas (click the pic for step by step directions):
This appears to be the fastest route (checked on mapquest and google) out there, and because 80 has more lanes than 5, and because this route would cause us to make less changes in course (from freeway to freeway, etc), I think this is also the best route.
So here is what I need from you guys:
Who wants to caravan with us?
Where will we meet with you?
If you live in Sacramento, meet with us at Reed, if you live elsewhere, you may need to drive to a central spot. I'm thinking we could pick up the Solano county guys in Susuin at the Chevron there by the Starbucks (I'll get the address/info). Past that, we need to set up main spots to pick up. We can't have too many as we don't want to be stopping a ton, so maybe one or two more spots along the way at most.
We'll need people to bring some two-ways (they're getting REAL cheap now, I'll probably go buy some for myself) and we'll need to designate a few leaders to help keep the whole group together.
So lets do this, and lets do it right. On the drive, we'll be traveling at, or very close to the speed limit in order to keep everyone together and to keep out of trouble. There will be NO jack assery. If you're going to drive like an idiot, don't meet with us because we won't put up with you. Other than that, we'll have a blast and we should have an awesome group like last year. I think we had 40+ cars in a line on the freeway during last years drive
I'll update the thread with more details as we go along. When we pick the one or two more meet spots after Susuin, I'll update the thread with the locations and meet times.
Please note updated arrival/departure times!!

I figured since the stop you have is ~ 45 minutes from your original meeting spot, somewhere along the lines of 45 more minutes would be well suited since you guys plan on making a second stop.
The best spot in walnut creek would probably be in the marie calendars parking lot off Mt Diablo Blvd.
If that works let me know and i'll get you guys an address.

It's difficult because we now have so many members on both sides. Not trying to alienate anyone, just trying to set up a drive on the easiest, quickest route out there.

We can do it the same way as last year and time it so the people coming from the 580 side can join us on 680 aroudn the same time.
or we can have a meeting spot in pleasanton instead of walnut creek since its after 580 so everyone is happy...

hmmm there are some of us in the fairfield/vacaville area...i was thinkin for us solano people...we could meet in fairfield at the starbucks/raleys right off of I80 near the rolling hills park area right off of north texas... that could be a pickup spot and then we caravan on back down with the rest of the sac guys :) any thoughts? :D
I guess I don't understand what you're saying..
You do realize that there is already a defined pick up spot in Fairfield? Right off 80 (with a sweet off ramp to get there no less). Adding a place for people to meet and then drive to the place where we're all meeting just adds complexity. I mean, you can do as you wish, but we need to be very strict about our departure times in order to make sure we hit our other pickups on time and we get to D&B on time.

This isn't the best spot to stop at... to get back on 80 West isn't that easy about 2 miles or so... and no room for parking about 10 spots max to park. The spot mad picked makes more sence.

ahhh i dont feel sofa-king-we-tad-ded now ;) but yea...the one starbucks next to raleys off of I80E would actually be optimal due to ALOT more parking spaces. (dunno how many exactly sac people commin down)..both starbucks have a handful of gas stations near by for refilling needs...either one is fine by me to meet at...but it is up to the coordinators :)
PS - this is the exact starbucks im talking about, plus its easy to get back onto I80W

I'm cool with looking at other places. The main reason I picked that starbucks is because that's the only real area around there that I know.
mad: get the address of the place you propose and post it so I can check it out. If it's not too far off the route and if other people agree that it's a better spot (preferrably local people out there like Gilmore) then I'm totally cool with it.
