Questions on Thread Depth? vs. Center Diff. ?

Hi guys,

Well, Ive been researching across 4 other subie related threads and couldnt find a most satisfactory answer for my question.. My question is if I run a set of tires in the size of 225/45/17 on a set of wheels and one pair has a thread depth of maybe 75%-80% meat left and the other pair is brand new with Zero mileage on it (100% meat left), would the two different thread depths on the 2 pairs of tires effect my center differential causing it to be working hard and heat up prone to failure?? Also, I dont have the formula to find out that revolutions each tire& wheel is spinning.

Thanks in Advance,
walter

Didnt want to edit but...

Hi all,

I forgot to mention on my 1st post is that I am currently running on my stock 16's with all matching sizes but different thread depths but not a wide gap in "meat left" percentage. GoodYear Carbon Fiber technology side wall tires in the front and Federal 535 tires in the rear F.Y.I.. Subaru of Hawaii had to change out the front pair of tires because it was balding and I couldnt pass Safety check which is sorta like Smog check in Cali..

Thanks again,
walter

You might want to try calling a tire shop to see if they could shave the new tires to the same depth as the old ones. It's worth a shot.

the tread depth measurement difference needs to be less than 5/32" in order to avoid issues with the drive train

Thanks for your info!! What about tire brands?? Is it mandatory to have all the same tire brands?? Researched across four different subie related sites and nothing worth mentioning about the running all the same brand tires??
