Looking for some new tires that will do good in the snow please help
 

I'm in the market for new tires. Thinkin about 215/45/17 on my stock height car what do you think? Also my cousin told me about nitto neo gen they look cool but how do they perform in the snow and also in the dry? I read reviews that some people say they acted as slicks in the snow due to the pattern.

Has anyone tried a nice lookin tire that did well in the snow? I don't live in snow but I am an avid snowboarder during the winter months and i know in dry the snow tires do wear more so what would you reccomend thanks

I run Bridgstone Blizzak studless snow tires when heading to the snow. If you have the space, I suggest getting an extra set of rims for dedicated snow tires.

Yeah I just seen those online and was leaning toward them but the. It dawned on me in dry conditions like the Central Valley they will wear down fast. I wish there was a tire in between that would do good on snow but not wear on dry lol

That's why you have 2 sets of wheels. Summer tires and snow tires.

Yeah I know I was trying to avoid taking up space that I don't already have. I think ima go with the nokian wrg2 they have some good reviews

Its not really about wet/dry, the operating temperature is the primary issue. Winter tires are made to be operated in cold weather so running them on a hot day on tarmac can quickly overheat the tire and cause it to wear much more quickly than it would on a cold snowy surface.

If you don't want to have a spare set of wheels you can always get a decent "all weather" M+S rated tire like the rather popular Grabber AT2 or something similar.

Personally, I'm hoping to try me a set of Pirelli Scorpions (I think thats what they were called) later this year just because they have a nice solid center rib in the tread and a lower tread wear rating (implies softer rubber) which should give them a bit better steering response compared to the paw-print type tread on the Grabber AT2.

Yeah the perelli sound good I liked the nokians though people say they good all weather

i do however 2nd the opinion on having them mounted on another set of tires.. even on oem 16's are fine.


why shopping for winter tires today anyway? its like hell outside. hah.

This is an old thread, but I just wanted to drop my recommendation here, since most people have recommended Blizzaks. I went with the Yokohama Iceguards after some research. It seems like they rated pretty closely to the Blizzaks, although I haven't tried those on my car, the Iceguards are a bit cheaper. I've driven in some pretty deep snow, and only got stuck when I bottomed out, like the snow was holding my car up a bit and couldn't I could get any traction. For normal use and not messing around like that, they've been great. Here are some links I found helpful for comparing winter tires.
