I think I screwed up my wheels

I was washing my wheels yesterday with eagle one spray on rinse off stuff. I sprayed it on waited 30sec, scrubbed a lil with a soft brush.. then hosed it off. The wheel came really clean, but I noticed this white residue looking stuff after it dried. I tried to clean it off but it wont come off.. its like the wheel cleaner took the finish right off the rim!

I have bronze ce28's.. I was using eagle one mag wheel cleaner. I read the back and noticed it said not to use on painted wheels but now it's too late. What can I do?

doh... um... wow...

sell it?

paint it?

get the mother's and/or meguir's wheel cleaner next time.

either way good luck... that blows mightily...

gordy 03-29-2004 11:31 AM

I'd like to get them anodized, anyone know a place that will do that and how much it might set me back. I love these wheels.. I don't want to sell them :(

Silver Mojo 03-29-2004 01:49 PM

Wow that sucks.

how noticable are they?

Don't anodize them, it will fade in sunlight. You need to get them either powdercoated or painted.

I just got back from a custom wheel finishing place in hollywood. he says the wheels are anodized and can't be refinished.. he said he could paint'em but thats it. will paint look as good as they look now?

I dont understand why I can't get them reanodized either.. if I could strip the finish with some freg'n wheel cleaner, surely they could strip the rest with some chemicals couldn't they??

fanker 03-29-2004 02:52 PM

yeah the old p21s wheel cleaner used to do that if you left the stuff on too long. anyway you should powdercoat them.

good luck

I guess I don't know everything about anodizing then. Just repeating what I heard in a couple other threads. :) I would contact the manufacturer and see what they recommend.

powder coat em some cool color

mario 03-29-2004 10:45 PM

i've used that stuff on my stock rims to clean them and it left that residue on my brakes. Well over a good amount of time it went away. Just give it some time and clean, clean, clean over time it will clear. If you can post a pic please. I hope everything works out for you man

DLUX WRX 03-29-2004 11:18 PM

If you want to strip them just use some Easy Off oven cleaner and it will come right off. FYI

Is it just me or does anybody else think eagle mag cleaner couldn't do this to some volks wheels? Just seems crazy to me that rims that expensive could be ruined by an "off the self" product. I myself have some rotas and will stay clear away from this cleaner. I am very sorry to here about this, I wanted these rims but decided to get rotas and EDMs instead. Hope you find a solution.

Tell me if I'm wrong but eagle mag cleaner is for polished aluminum wheels .. its suposed to strip everything off the wheels. Since anadiseing is about the thinest finish out there couldn't you just use the cleaner a couple more times and then just polish the bare aluminum. to me that sounds like the cheapest way out.

JUNNEL20 03-31-2004 07:40 AM

I agree with WRX21.... polish off the rest of the annodized color then re-annodized or paint them or powdercoat.

You cannot really undo the annodization with any paint thinner because it was bonded to the aluminum with electricity.

Man... i think my highschool physics teacher just turned over in her grave!

Striker6502 04-01-2004 09:59 AM

wow, that sucks. try finding a performance shop and get them powder coated or if your really anal about how they look, get a new one. my friend has the volk ce28 in gold and it came back to normal again
