8.0 or 8.5 ???

So i have a wrx...would love to go tracking in the summer and plans to add some coilovers....would 17x8 or 17X8.5 make a different in handling??? what is the pros and cons of goin .5 wider??? is it better to run 17x8.5 to achieve faster lap time?

Spend a lot more time worrying about tires and less time worrying about wheels. 17x8 is enough to get a 245/40 tire, so start there and then add wheels. Speaking in generalities, 8.5" wide is better for handling, but honestly few of us would ever be able to tell the difference behind the wheel, and 17x8s are easier to fit (and find).

Dude, I LOVE those wheels! P1s are possibly my all-time favorite, so making a stronger, MUCH lighter version does nothing to hurt that, haha. You could do better than Pirellis, but they aren't bad. What's your climate like?

In climates that get real winters, I strongly suggest having a second set of wheels for snow tires- because that frees you up to run super sticky wet/dry tires in the summer. For your Prodrivs, if it was me, I'd get some Hankook RS2s or some Bridgestone S03s if they are still on sale and available.

Im gonna be buying an 05 Sti, and I keep seeing on these websites that 18x8.5's fit on the 05 Sti only, Would that require any special treatment to get those on? Like roll the fenders and a special alignment? Or can I just slap them on there and be done with it?

18x8.5s will fit, but when you see "fits '05+ STi only" it's because of the bolt pattern.

Depends on the offset of the wheel and size of the tires.
