18x9" wheels on an 02 wrx??
 

Is anybody out there running 18x9" wheels on their stock bodied 02 wrx. Pictures would be appreciated.

No, I don't have them, but I can give some advice. This would certainly not be a "bolt on" application meaning you will have to do some modifications. In the rear, you can use a combination of adjustable lateral links and cusco upper camber plates to pull in the entire rear track width by about .75-1" total. You may have to do some precision 2 lb sledge adjustments on the inner fender wall. This is easy and does not hurt anything. You *may* want to get an aftermaket curved forward link. Both front and rear you will need to roll the fenders pretty well. Even with this, you will need to run some negative camber and may have issue with the front rubbing under full or near full lock. Proper offset is key. After everything is said and done, you would be looking in the mid to upper 30's offset.

Run a stretched tire and you will need to do less, but that makes this pointless. If you are doing this for performance reasons, a 17x9 may work better.

Tire rack carries a Kosei K1TS that is very light and comes in 17x9 +35 I believe. This is a very aggressive custom app. Great wheel for the price. You would have to call or contact luke directly as you can not jsut buy it on the site straight. They are pretty serious about selling you what they have as beeing the correct size and offset for the application and this certainly would not be it

I have those wheels in 17x7, you are correct that the TireRack folks will work very hard to prevent you from getting what they think is an unsafe or unwise size. I ordered 235/17 tires, and a tech called me and said he was changing my order to 215/17, as 235 was too wide for 7" width wheels.

I don't think you'd be able to fit 9" wide wheels in the front wells, period; you can't roll those fenders, that is actually the engine bay you'd be pounding on. The widest I have seen is 8", unless you want to go to the trouble of actually changing the offset of the entire assembly, as suggested by charlesj.

At 9" you'd have wheels that stick out past the fender flares -- you'd look like a ghetto Monte Carlo with spinners.

I have seen 9s use on an 06. You can roll the front fenders...I have done it. The part that does not give is to wheel wells which you will hit with the wrong offset and tire size combined with too much suspension squish. It is definitely a fine tuned setup to get right. An 8.5 is no problem at all. Several applications for that. I ran an 18x8.5 +40 with 245 r compound on mine. For the front, I removed the fender lining for heavy road coursing, but would not have had to do that for the street.

Luke could probably answer this better, but to order a non standard fitment from tire rack, you may have to call it a race custom app. and just ask for a size and offset. For a 9", +38 would be about as good as it gets.

Are you tucking the rear wheel? And do you have lateral links?

my friend (SG5 on the forums) runs 17x9 GramLight Maximums +38 with 255/40/17 azenis on his 06 wrx...only the rear is rolled and he has no rubbing issues whatsoever on coilovers

he got the wheels off of someone who had them on a bugeye with 05+brembos


just to let you know this is stock allignment...you don't need all the stuff listed above, take it from someone who's already done it before

screw it just get a wide body kit haha

right now i'm running 18x8.5 with a 38et and yeah it's no problem. It's no 18x9 but not far from it. The only thing is I had to cut my rear fenders so that it wouldn't rub. But i'm also using 255/35/18 sized tires!

This is the size of the future right here. Perfect setup and really what more aggressive owners should be runing. We are so behind Evo guys in terms of fitments and IMO just entirely too conservative as a whole when it comes to thigns like this. Hopefully more people wills tart running these sizes. With a little trickery, a 9.5 all around is completely doable.
