I'm sure others will mention this, but you shouldn't be mounting wheels with a +42 offset. Reccommended tolerance is +48 to +52; everything Prodrive ships (they build the WRC cars) or that comes from the Subaru factory is +50.

But in his case, this offset will ensure that using a 235 tire, there is no rubbing on the strut. However, with the wheel now being pushed outward more, there is going to be definite rubbing on the outside. Be prepared to have your fenders rolled professionally, and looking at that offset, you may or may not be able t clear Big Brake Kits in the future, wheel design depending.

and yes, a 235 tire will fit on a 7.5" wheel... there will be some rubber hanging off the sides.

I've got 18 x 7.5 rims with +42 offset, wrapped in 225/40/18's and dropped with Tein S-techs. I've had this set up for about 8 months or so, and i still have yet to experience any type of tire rub whatsoever, whether i'm going over huge speed bumps, or driving with 4 people in my car.

Luke, will 235's fit a +46 offset 18x8 wheel. Stock height for now.

I have not purchased the tires, or will I be better off with 225's

Tein Coilovers will be added as well in the very near future

Thanks

04' WRX

dch, I have a 02 WRX with SPT springs (1.4" front 1.2" rear drop). I am running -1 degree of camber on the rear with factory struts and wheels with a +48mm offset and 225/45/17 so3's (wider than most 225's). I never had a problem with rubbing (rear) untill I pushed the car very hard on a clover leaf enterance ramp. Im sure a stiffer strut (coilover in your case) and more - camber in the rear would help but I would think even with that a 235 on a wheel with a 46mm offset would rub the fenders when pushing hard in tight corners. With that being said Suby dude has 245's on his WRX but his suspension is heavily modded and I think the Rota torques have a 48mm offset. Here is a link http://www.subydude.com/mods/detailsdoc.php?3053.

One other thing ej20wrx haveing a wheel with a 42mm offset will not only most likely cause your tires to rub the fenders it will also put more stress on the wheel bearings and cause them to wear quicker than if you had the correct offset. I have heard it costs around $700 to change wheel bearings.

I have 18x7.5 +42 with 225s on my 98 rs. They rub on the outside even after i got the fender lip rolled. I am going to have to go back and have it flared I guess. Or run negative camber which I'm not to excited about.

Yes they will definately rub with 235s is my answer.

I've never taken the time to learn about offset (my bad) the higher the offset the wider tires you can mount? My wheels are +46 so if 245's fit on +48 it seems logical that 235 would fit...unless Suby dude had 18x7.5's

Thanks for the reply.
