A Big Thank You to Capitol Subaru
I recently brought my car into Capitol Subaru because of a rattling noise that was coming from the shifter at rpms over 4k. I dropped it off in the morning and was given a loaner car while they diagnosed the problem. By early afternoon, they were able to pinpoint that the problem came from the synchro sleeve. Justin, the service tech, ordered the parts right away and let me keep the loaner while they waited for the part to arrive in a couple of days. In the meantime, Justin called the Subaru tech line to see if this was a common problem. Through his conversation with Subaru, he discovered that other owners have complained of similar problems and that Subaru was working on a more permanent solution. After all was said and done, Subaru sent out a test version of a shifter assembly that they are using to fix the problem. Now I am happy to be shifting past 4k again.
The reason I share this experience is not just to show my appreciation for the good work that the Capitol Subaru team does, but to share the point that I feel very fortunate that I have found a shop that I trust. Many times when I had brought things into different kinds of shops for repairs, whether a car, a computer, or a watch, I would be told that the noise is normal and to just get used to it. I realize that hunting for noises is a very expensive exercise, and many times without real results. I would have to leave the shop wondering if I should get rid of the defective product and get a new one.
I know that there are quite a few good shops in the Bay Area, but I am glad that I have found a trustworthy friend at Capitol Subaru.
