Stolen STI... one less STI in the states

Hi all,

Does anyone know what the theft rate might be for the STI? I'm was extremely unfortunate to have mine stolen about two weeks ago... yeah.. I'm getting anoter soon ASAP... this time with lojack and the whole nine.... anything to deter these thieves out there.

Like I said happened about a week and a half ago... still haven't heard anything from the cops yet and it's almost 2 weeks. I have to wait 30 days before the insurance co. gives me any kind of pay off.

Guard your STI the best you can.. if it happened to me it can happen to anyone.

regards,

Cj

Where do you live?

ceejay07 10-14-2003 10:24 AM

I'm in Rockland County, NY but it happened in Hoboken NJ. Black STI... just about one month old... when I walked out and my car wasn't there... my heart just stopped.

Damn that sucks!! I'm getting my STI probably tonight or tomorrow. Anyone has information on the lojack? I might need to install it.

ProPain 10-14-2003 10:34 AM

Yeah,

Hoboken is a @ hit hole. Im not suprised at all.

Sorry to hear it bro. You will get a new car...

ceejay07 10-14-2003 10:36 AM

fortunately my dealer already have one STI in stock, but I'm waiting for black on silver. the guy told me that they have three options for lojack... priced at 795, 895, 995... one of those options if anyone tampers with the car, and the alarm goes off.. you will get a phone call from the lojack service.. and I guess from that point you can check it out to make sure that everything is ok.... .. I'm trying to get as much detail as I can about lojack too. I thought there was a monthly fee involved.. but the sales person said that it was a one time fee (the price of of the system and installment). if you find out any additional information feel free to share.

where about do you live? I guess the bad thing is that Hoboken, NJ is right around the corner from Jersey city, NJ which I hear has a really hight theft rate. a five minute drive from hoboken and you are in Jersey city... from that point... when I get the other car... I may just drive the MY98 RS down there.

I work in the area, that's i'm there a lot. my gut feeling tells me that my car is no longer on US soil... Elizabeth, NJ seaport... largest in the country is about a 15 minute drive from hoboken... my car is probably in a crate sailing somewhere far far away :(

I have a Lojack in my WRX, I would say it is a very good investment, peace of mind wise anyway. It cost me 750 (Im out in CA, San Jose) and was a quick install, no longer than getting my oil changed.

ProPain 10-14-2003 11:04 AM

I live in Long Island NY.

I know Jersey pretty well, and I would never take my car to Hoboken unless I was just running into a store or I was in a parking garage.

Lo-Jack is nice but easily disabled. So is every other device you can install in a car. The only way around it is a fuel cutoff somewhere where it cannot be disabled. The longer it takes them to take your car, the better the chance it will not be taken.

But nothing is fool proof and if they want your car, they will take it. Try not to leave it in a public lot for to long. Also, change your parking habbits. If you park in the same spot every day people will notice.

Damn bro, that really suck. I was told by the dealer the subaru isnt really high on the theft list. That there really isnt any resale value on the parts because its not a common car.

Now a Honda on the other hand, step out your door and you will see 10 in like 10 minutes.

Sorry bro, but good times ahead. You will get a new car. Hmmm, maybe a boot on the wheels will do the trick. :)

....how do you figure?

ceejay07 10-14-2003 11:40 AM

thought about the boot thing as a silly idea :) ... but i'm sure they could just jack it up and swap the wheel and drive it off... for all I know, they might have taken it on a flat bed.

like you said, nothing is full proof. One thing I can think of.. is not to display that the car has lojack if they don't know about it.. they will hopefully not look for it... or just keep the car in rockland where it's safe... but it would sux always worrying about driving it or parking it; I got the car to drive it. in 5 years my RS was never touched... and one month bam STI goner.. never even had a car broken into

but really... how is lojack easily disabled?
