Speed laws?
Hey guys, I'm about to move from California to Wichita Falls, TX this June, and was wondering what the traffic cops are like there in Texas. I heard from other guys that while some posted speed limits are up to 85 MPH, the cops are very strict about exceeding the speed limit at all.
I like some spirited driving every now and then and was just curious. I have a Valentine 1, will that do me any good? I heard that a lot of the sherrifs don't even use radar.

Some of the cops down here are cool, but theres alot of them that will get you for stupid stuff. Like no front license plate and stuff like that. State troopers are some of the worst for things like that. I work at the texas department of public saftey. Iam typing this message from work right now. Troopers are some of the worst. But some of the cops wont mess with you. I dont know bout the witchita falls area though. I live in the austin area.

cops aren't that bad on the interstate.... most will let you pass by 10mph over the posted speed limit. You just have to watch out the cops in the city areas. They can pull you over for the stupidest reasons.

From what you guys know, do they all use radar or other means?
What about emissions stuff? I'm about to go catless and wanted to know if the cops are ***** about that stuff like they are here in California (I would think not, but who knows).

Cops use radars here. I've seen them parked on the shoulder, get out of the cars, and hold the damn radar.
As for emissions, there are no emissions testing here where I live (Beaumont). I believe the metro areas have them though.
Also, watch out for cops on Horseback!!

If their standing outside the car, then it's probably laser, which is just about impossible to avoid. They use it on 635 around here, and it sucks. Has to be held really still and pointed exactly at the car to work though, which is why they have to stand outside the car.

Yeah, if they hit you with a laser, you only have a couple seconds to slow before they clock you. I was just actually saved by my V1 today from a laser out of a side street!

I've never seen a posted 85 speed limit.... a lot of places its 75 though. As its been said, cops on the highway aren't usually bad about pulling people over as long as your not like weaving heavily in and out of stuff almost causing accidents. Now holiday weekends they tend to crack down a little. City cops will pull you over for doing like 4-5 over going downhill. Some cops use Radar, though most (esp highway guys) have changed over to Laser, and if you have a radar detector that = automatic ticket.
