President Obama's VIP healthcare
President Obama's VIP healthcare
So why can't all of us have this level of care?
So why can't all of us have this level of care?
When President Obama says he has the best healthcare in the world, he isn't kidding.
The White House medical unit, with a staff of four doctors plus nurses and physicians' assistants, is steps from his office. Treatment is free for Obama and his family (as well as for the vice president and his family).
During the president's travels, a doctor and nurse ride in a limousine in his motorcade. An emergency medical technician comes too, with an ambulance.
Air Force One is stocked with equipment for an on-board operating room. On overseas trips, two medical teams usually travel with the president, one on the plane and one pre-positioned on the ground so the president will always have a rested doctor and nurse at the ready.
The first family receives VIP treatment at military hospitals. And Obama has virtually instant access to medical specialists that few, if any, Americans could duplicate.

Ok, why would it cost too much?
DISCLAIMER: I'm just ranting and should probably delete this post. But I won't, so you can all witness my insanity.
Why does it cost so much to become a doctor? Because of the prestige of the schools they go to? If all medical doctors are taught the same basic facts, why does it matter what school they go to? Can't the same basic knowledge be taught at a community college?
Why do CT scanners cost so much money? They're just plastic, sand and metal molded into particular shapes, most of the time done by other machines that are made out of plastic, sand and metal.
Why should a person providing a janitorial service get paid less than me? Aren't cleanliness and hygienic environments necessary parts of maintaining a healthy lifestyle and society? Isn't that almost as important as being a doctor? After all, the spread of the black plague was in part due to poor understanding of hygiene, wasn't it?
These are all rhetorical questions, by the way. Sometimes I get really aggravated with the idea of "money" and things costing a certain amount.

Sometimes it's just that it's Eight years of school.
Investment of that kind of time requires a payoff.
Whether it be more money, or more benefits or whatever theres got to be a benefit or your not going to get quality candidates.
Anyone smart enough to be a doctor is going to be smart enough not to work for Janitor's pay..
Why does a Sun Ultra27 cost more than an Acer Aspire? Quality..

Obviously I get that there is a tradeoff for investment of time and money, what I take issue with is the value placed on ... you know what, I'm not getting in to this. There's a reason I wrote this at the bottom of the post:
The rest of your post and the inappropriate comparison of Sun vs. Acer aside, as a sysadmin that went through Sun 101 that has worked with literally thousands of Sun servers, I can tell you that's a bunch of hooey. Sun's build quality has significantly dropped in the past ten years, so much so that I would recommend people stay away from their hardware due to the imbalance of quality:cost ratio.
Cliff's Notes: Your comparison is inaccurate because you're comparing server hardware to workstation hardware, but relative to other less expensive enterprise level hardware, you pay more for Sun because it has the Sun Microsystems logo on it.

This is the health care plan I was referring to:
Federal Employees Health Benefits Program
As soon as members of Congress are sworn in, they may participate in the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program (FEHBP). The program offers an assortment of health plans from which to choose, including fee-for-service, point-of-service, and health maintenance organizations (HMOs). In addition, Congress members can also insure their spouses and their dependents.
Not only does Congress get to choose from a wide range of plans, but there’s no waiting period. Unlike many Americans who must struggle against precondition clauses or are even denied coverage because of those preconditions, Senators and Representatives are covered no matter what - effective immediately.
And here’s the best part. The government pays up to 75 percent of the premium. That government, of course, is funded by taxpayers, the same taxpayers who often cannot afford health care themselves.

The reason why it costs too much is because the government is too intermingled with the rest of the god damned system.
Delete Medicare, let the free market balance itself. Let the economy cut where it needs to cut, and expand where it needs to expand. Companies will compete, because companies want money and revenue. Health care is like any other business... and it is given the normal term BENEFIT. I'm tired of hearing about health care is a right, it isn't a ****ing right, Obama has no clue on what he's doing with health care reform, he is doing the exact OPPOSITE. Government needs to STOP doing crap like medicare, because it's a failure and a joke. Social security is a joke. Post office is a joke. They need to let the market decide for itself, not cheat other businesses who NEED to expand but get too heavily taxed to do so, or get undercut by government subsidies, etc.
Governmental subsidies IMO is money taken from us, and given to the government to throw in where they see fit. Obviously, I would rather have us keep our own money, and invest in an insurance plan that best fits us. Maybe make a certain amount of a paycheck that is non-taxable, and can be used for the person's choice. Whether he spent it on healthcare or other needs. That is HIS choice.
Government needs to stop making choices for us. Let the capitalism and the free market fix it, not the governments "spend more plan"

Forgot to add one more element to this question.
The reason why there are few doctors is because of the technicalities and ifficulty of the profession. You can instantly kill or save someone's life. That is the reason the profession pays as much. This is capitalism, if I spent 10-15 years in education, I want to be paid well for my time spent in continuous learning.
Now when government steps in, and the doctors $$ gets dropped from 400k to 300k, you'll see a drop in doctors because why would someone spend so much $$ for that profession? Sure you'll have a few here n' there, but in a CAPITALISTIC society, the reason we are so great, is the drive of the free market world, and making $$ doing something.
Now if government says you get capped at this much $$, I guarantee that there will be LESS doctors, and there will be longer lines, changing the health are system for the worst.
