I recently installed Perrin rear endlinks on my car. I have a wagon with a stock suspension. While at Mt. Hamilton, I would occasionally hear some noise coming from the rear of the car (no, not the tires squeeling). After getting home, I noticed that the endlinks were hitting the swaybar. Is this normal? I was thinking about putting duct tape around the bar to minimize abrasion. I also pivoted the endlinks so they were away from the bar.

hmmm. that can't be good. i have the perrin's installed in the rear of my sedan, and they don't hit the cusco bar, at least not that i've heard. it was up on the lift at MPJ this past weekend, and i didn't see any marks on the bar, but i wasn't looking that closely. i'd double check that the end links are installed in the right direction, that the bolts are all torqued to spec, and that the sway bar mounts are stil attached. which part of the link was hitting the bar? pictures would probably help...

The curved part is. Since the links have a ball pivot, they can be moved from side-to-side. I don't think the contact is causing any binding since I can grab them and move them side-to-side (it does take some pulling/pushing to move them). Can they be mounted backwards or upside down? I don't think they are directional since they aren't marked left or right and they aren't marked up or down and there was no mention of them having to be put on right side up. I mounted them with the writing facing the outside (towards the wheel). I'll check tonight to see if there is wear on the bar or end link.

okay, the links are shaped kinda like a 'C' with the spherical bushings at each end of the C. are yours mounted with the back of the C facing towards the rear of the car, or towards the front of the car? is it the inside or outside curved portion of the links that's hitting the sway bar?

wait a second, i may have been visualizing this the wrong way...is it the side of the link that's hitting/rubbing on the sway bar? if that's the case, did you install the spacers that Perrin provides in the spherical ball bearings before bolting the link in?

The open part of the C is pointing to the front of the car (same as stock) and I put the spacers on. The pivots for the links are ball pivots (stock has a sleeve pivot) so you can move the endlinks side-to-side. The inside side of the endlink was hitting the swaybar. I pivoted the endlinks so they were angled away from the swaybar but haven't driven the car since and don't know if they will move back to the inside.
I'll try to take a picture tonight with them in their current position.

call Alta motorsports in Beaverton, OR 503-643-4677
the guy that usually answers the phones is Jeff Perrin; he is super nice and has spent a bunch of time answering my petty questions about his (and other stuff) i've installed. from what i know, Alta is like a sister company to Perrin, they are owned by the same people, and do most of the R&D work for the perrin stuff; you should see the cars they all drive to work. Evo, STi, WRX, Mini, M3... they design the stuff you buy. give him a jingle if you haven't figured your problem out yet. lata, Bennie

I pushed them away from the bar and they seem to be staying there. I haven't really driven that hard since Mt. Hami so we'll see next time I decide to drive briskly.

especially if you have an aftermarket muffler, the bottom of te sway bar may be hitting the top of the muffler. I haven't had any problems with my cusco/whiteline klc26 setup.
However, i've heard of many people w/the perrin setup that have this problem and say they saw abbrasion on the tops of the muffler where the bar hit on hard turns
worth a look-see

No, I still have the stock RSB and the side of the link was hitting the bar. Since I pushed the links away from the bar, it hasn't hit. I may do a canyon run this weekend and see what happens.
Here is a photo of the Perrin endlinks, Perrin RSB Kit, and Anti-Shift kit installed. Notice the endlinks do not sit straight up and down. That is normal. The one thing you do have to becareful about is the bar shifting to the left of right. Thats where the shift kit comes in.
Another thing you have to look at is the install. The directions are for both the stock and/or aftermarket bar or the Perrin bar. They install differently depending on which bar you have.

lowball,
It's hard to see the endlink because it is so dark. Your set-up looks similar to mine except mine has the bar on the inside. Are the bushings the Anti-shift kit? When I put them in, I installed them vertical and I'm guessing they shifted towards the swaybar. Since I moved them towards the outside (away from the bar), I have not had a problem.
Thanks for the reply and for posting the photos. Are those STi pinks I see in the background?

Red Dragon Rex - If you have the bar on the inside then I think you have it setup correctly for your bar. When my bar shifted it was hitting the spare tire well and very close to my rear tire...like mm away
And yes that is the STi pink struts and springs (4-ways)

just installed the same set up (sway bar and end links), i have the same noise, but only when i hit small dip or bump. it gets worse when i adjust it in forward. another problem is my front sway bar, installed a whiteline with end links and makes the same noise only the right when going into a dip or bump, do you know if someone has the problem or have any idea how to fix it. thanks
