Ive used redline synthetic since the first recomended change (3000 or 3750, cant remember) Mostly 5w30, but have run 10w30, 10w40 in the summer. I dont think I needed the 10w40, as eastbay summers arent toooo hot.

I used to switch it every 3500-4000 miles, but the past 2 changes Ive gone 5K - 5500 cycles with the oem filter. Some people go over 7K!! Someday I will get an oil analysis.....been too lazy.

Many popular synthetic brands are: German Castrol, Mobil 1, Redline, Amsoil, Royal Purple. Go to bobistheoilguy.com, you can see oil analysis results for all the subies.

You cant really go too wrong with oil in the subie, they respond well to most any oil. One person posted on that site^^ that subaru engines are so good that you could use ear wax or baby oil, LOL. Just make sure you use a good filter (oem, purolater) and make sure the oil level is normal.

Just be sure NOT to go to Jiffy lube!! For a good laugh/scare google search "Jiffy Lube Horror Stories"

My 2 cents

I use strictly Motul but Royal Purple, Amsoil and Redline are all very good. I don't think you can go wrong with any of those.

they are the same. just get the right oil grade for your temp zone

amsoil here too

Recently there was a thread posted by an engineer that works in lubrication tech...he said he would only use Mobil1, but Amsoil is close for him. He said don't use race lubes because they are designed for much shorter life and different conditions than a daily driven oil. I wish I could find the thread/link...but I totally lost it.
