WTF???
I just came from another town, and I dont know what the hell told me to check the oil (a new car), i did and to my surprise it doesnt have oil!! nothing.. NADA.
the engine was running, i thought, let me stop it to check if there's any difference, the same, exactly. i checked it up like 5 times. called people in to check it, if by any reason i was blind or something..
I changed the oil on the dealer at 1,200 miles.. i was thinking on taking it soon, it have 6100 miles now..
This is not the same oil that came with 0-5 miles, used to break in, that usually dissappear. its the oil after the break-in..
does this have happened to anybody of you guys?
if anybody got a new sti and havent checked the oil lately, sleeping on the side, that its a new car, just do it, just in case... it just take 1 minute.....
PLease anybody let me know your feedbacks....

The fact that your engine was running smoothly indicates a low
oil level, not a zero level. If you added oil to the proper level
on the dipstick, you should be ok. Using a couple of quarts in 4900 miles is not unusual in a high performance engine and it
is your responsibility to maintain the proper level.

it's pretty common that the sti eats up oil fast during the break in and high rpms driving, the car car should feel very smooth with enough oil and will feel funny when changing gears, that's when u add oil, i do oil change every 2500 mi~

I think I am reading you post right and you had your oil changed at the dealer.
My del sol would burn 1qt maybe more every 2000 or so miles but i originally found out by having the VTEC no engage(no oil pressure) and they told at the dealership that there was not a single drop in the engine and i was screaming to 8000 even with no VTEC thinking the intake i installed did something. The motor was fine after it was quenched but i always thought about that in the back of my mind it kind of held me back from turboing the car and i'm glad though cause i traded the car in for the STi.

Ya I know in My WRX that happened to me But I put one Quart in and it came up to the add Line so I added another half a quart and it was full. It hasent hurt anything that i know of 30k Miles later.

I would use Amsoil Motor Oil. I have read many independent tests that show it is superior to everything on the market including Mobil 1. It is more expensive but definitely worth it. I use it in my 1994 Toyota Supra twin-turbo as well as my 2003 Accord. They came out with the triple synthetic motor oil long before Mobil dide.

What I have found is that a lot of high performance cars tend to use oil during break in period and it will slow down with time. I remember reading a magazine where they were doing a long term test on the new civic type r in europe and said it had a real problem using oil during the break in period.

Probably Just Low...
My STI has needed 1-2 quarts between oil changes. It has become less as the miles have gone bye. I usually add a quart after a track day. My WRX was the same way. I drive them pretty hard, with a fair amount of stop and go.
The dip stick will sometimes show nothing, but once a quart is added, it shows full.
Hope this is the case for you.

Oh yeah, I run mobil 1 syn. and change it every 3k with Subaru filter only...

Not to burst your bubble on the Amsoil, but after reading about 50 pages on the topic from a Petroleum engineer, and if you understand the 5 groups of motor oil, and how they are made, what their stock is etc, you will see that Amsoil is a Group III lubricant, placing it with the lesser quality synthetics, while Mobil 1 is a GroupIV lube, the highest level one should use in a street vehicle. Examples of Group V luricants are Motul and Redline ie true racing synthetics and their price reflects their quality. Royal Purple is a lowly Group II lube which is a real ripoff. Castol is only a Group III lube as are most of the other name brand synthetics. Mobil 1 is the real deal and a superior value to the other name brand products like Pennzoil, Valvoline, Quaker State, etc.

I am not doubting that you are telling the truth but can you please tell me where I can read what you are saying. I have read many independent tests with Mobil 1, Amsoil and Castrol and Amsoil has won every test hands down. Many months back I read an article in Popular Mechanics where they ran some tests and also concluded that Amsoil was far superior as far as wear and viscosity breakdown. I am not an engineer by any stretch and go by what I read so I would definitely be interested in seeing any information that contradicts what I have read. Their is also a shop in my area that is running a 69 Chevelle in the Pro-Modified class that uses Amsoil. They are running high 6 second quarter miles and around 205mph right now. They claim that they have gotten much better results from Amsoil as well over using Mobil 1. I know that it is only one shops perspective but interesting nonetheless.

4900 miles later?
