Invoice/Out the door Q's?? '03-'05 WRX Wagon

Howdy folks, any help would be much appreciated, I'm here in LA and lookin' to get a WRX in the next few days, cant wait! but I only have about $19K cash and would rather not finance if possible. Around here at the dealers the used wagons seem pretty overpriced, and private ones are pretty rare...

A place has a $24k+ sticker on a used '05 w/15K mi on it, $22K sticker for a '03 w/22k mi and $19750 for a '03 with 40k+ mi.... at those prices it might be worth it to go for a new one...

I'm wondering what the invoice is and what the least I should be able to get out the door after taxes for a new '05 rex AT wagon?

Would it be worth it to take a train ride to vegas and pick one up there? (i'm under the impression that nev has no sales tax, or is that not true on cars? (I'm moving to CO soon and will only have to pay 2.8% sales tax if i pay it there vs the 8.25% CA, but i need the car for the move... doh!)

Anyone know what i should pay out the door at a dealer for a:
A. 04 at wrx wagon
B. 03 at wrx wagon

????

Gotta get me a wrx, just have to swing a pretty damn good deal to pull it off.

If anyone has one for sale in so cal, or has any other ideas for me let me know,
J

You wouldn't be able to go to vegas and buy a car becuase you can't bring the car back to CA for a year by CA law.

OTD in CA for a 05 w/ an AT would be around 24-25k depending on options.

Yeah, but since i'm moving to colorado on the 21st of this month I could register it there and bypass that, possibly saving myself a bit o' tax....

In all honesty (puts on flame suit) I would find a used S2000 being sold privately if I was you. You could get into a 2003 or 2004 for that price and have a lot of car left. They are really great cars. You should drive one before you make your decision.

Thanks for the tip, unfortunatedly i need a. an awd rally style to handle the snow, i am moving back to the rockies, I'd kill myself in the snow with an s2000 and b. am looking for a wagon for a bit more practicality. May have found a private party wrx wagon, '03 for $17K with under 30k miles.... we'll see, gotta check it out this afternoon.

Oh OK I def. understand your reasoning because inclement weather lead me to my car instead of an S2K or a new Cobra. I still love them both though. I would def. do private party before dealer because you'll pay a significant amount more at a dealer.

A/T wagon

if you're looking for an AT wagon, get a Saab 9-2. AT WRX's don't resale very well at all, and you can get a brand new 9-2 Aero for less than a WRX will cost you by a few hundred bucks, and it's the SAME CAR. My little brother just bought one two days ago. He came to me for a WRX, and I walked him over to the Saab dealer. Call me a sellout, but especially with an Automatic transmission, the WRX is very difficult to re-sell, but the Saab won't be (brand image BS, but it's the truth).
