Synthetic oil is far superior to conventional oil. I used to have a great article that compared conventional oil to synthetic oil. I will try and find it and post it when I get home from work today.
It is truly amazing what people think is true and stuff. They hear it from one source that they trust and treat it as gold without verifying if the statement is true or not.

Never use synthetic oil?
As the owner of a new (2006) Impreza 2.5i I am about to do an oil change, and want to use synthetic. So went to the Owners Manual, and there on page 11-11 it says "you can use synthetic engine oil that has the same requirements given for convential engine oil. When using synthetic oil, you must use oil of the same classification, viscosity and grade shown in this owner's manual, and must follow the oil and filter changing intervals shown in the maintenance schedule."
So mush for one dealer's knowledge!

there is different kinds of sythetic oils. full and sythetic blend which in terms mean just half and people say that once you use full sythetic then u should stay with it cause they say it has to do with your gasket seating to the oil.. i not really sure let me know if im wrong

synthetic oil is far better than conventional in every way.lol. most, but anyways i think you should switch to it as soon as you get the car, people say that it must be broken in for 10K , but its not some kind of magical, god-like oil, it cant Eliminate friction..., and so their point goes out the window. This way you can treat the engine better from the start and it will last longer

Using Synthetic Oil
I've used Mobil 1 on my past three cars, all of which were turbo charged. Its worked spectacular! I had 160,000 on a turbo all wheel
Eclipse and I only used a half quart every oil change. I also use the syn oil to lube the "old Lady"

Question, I bought an 02 wrx with 90k miles froma dealership and its been a little over 3k miles so I figured I should get an oilchange. I have no idea whether it had synthetic or regular oil in it previously. What should I do? I don't mind the extra cost of the synthetic is thats what I should go with.

I went to the dealership yesterday for my 2nd oil change and asked when is a good time to switch to synthetic oil. I only have 6500 mile on my 05 wrx. They said I should never switch to synthetic oil because it is too thick and does harm to the valves. Is this true? I thought synthetic was thinner than regular oil and better for the engine. I know many of you out here use synthetic. Does the dealership know what they are talking about? Has anybody ever had problems using synthetic? Any insight is appreciated. Thanks
i say bull****. the dealership up here has the option for synthetic, its 10 bucks more than regular but def never said that it was not recommended. find a new stealership
