vibration
was playing in the snow (first real snowfall for toronto) with my 2002 OBS and must say had lot's of fun. Parked the car and noticed snow in the wheels. Went to drive hours later and noticed a vibration at highway speeds. Am hoping it's just the snow had turned to ice in the wheels (my moms Festiva had about a pound of ice in the rear wheels after I spun it when I was a kid) and will melt in the underground parking. If it's not that, and other ideas what it could be?

I haven't experienced this myself, but have read many times that even small ice formations in the inner wheel area can cause big vibrations at higher speeds (and probably not very safe, at that). Let it melt and you should be okay.

I am haveing a problem close to that. We just had a snow fall here in NJ and I was out and about with no problems. I then went to a family thing for about 3 hours. When I left I heard a sound like a deep vibration comeing from around the trans area. Even stranger I can only here it in the car. Im hearing it moveing or stand still when you rev the engine. Anyone have any ideas?
P.S. I have a 2002 Wrx w/ about 10,000 miles on it. |
it looks like mine is solved by the melting. Went to drive it this morning noticed a large puddle and when I moved the car some chunks of ice fell out. I haven't got up to highway speeds yet so we'll see..

no more vibrations
yea, I posted this at work yesterday when I went in and as I was leaveing there were chunks of ice that fell of from under my car. I hit the highway and there were no unormal vibrations. Im guessing its ice build up under the car. In any case Im happy its not anything serious.

Dammit, I spoke too soon. After the huge snowstorm we got on Christmas here in New England (much of the snow moving horizontal with the wind), I noticed a big vibration once I hit 60 on the highway on the way to work this morning (it was perfectly normal until then). The car's in the sun now so it should melt out by the end of the day. Oh well. =)

that was my problem, i had snow in my rims and it created alot of vibrating.

had it happen again and seemed to solve it while driving by using the parking brake a little bit. Seemed to warm it up a bit and the vibration stopped
