LOL, you guys are great. I made an account just to reply to this. I can not believe how disgruntled you are letting yourselves get because of something so trivial.

You are really going to lose sleep over this one. I am 18. I have an STi. I pay a mortgage. I currently have a base salary of $90,000 USD a year. I have been working at this company for just under a year. I did not know anyone at this company before I started. I did not have friends or relatives that helped me get this position. I have no degrees. It was brought to my attention after I was hired, there was alot of interest in the position, and other applicants held various degrees ranging from BSc to Masters in related fields. I love my STi. I race my STi in various events. I have only engaged in performance driving for a few months now. I do not get times as good as some of the veterans. I get better times than alot of people. I have fun. Do you have fun? Do you have less fun knowing that some punk kid is enjoying the same toy you are? You shouldnt.

Some people struggle with this all of their lives. Please listen. Money (or cars bought with that money) is not a sufficient metric to quantify the value of a human being. You will be bitter and pessimistic until you realize this.

The comments a few of you are making are demonstrating a superiority complex in that you do not feel adequate if at this stage in your life in terms of how you are measuring up to someone half your age. Until you find a better metric than money and posessions, you will continue to struggle. Please, old farts, do grow up :)

Instead of arguing on car forums, why dont you go take your kids to the zoo, or teach them how to make popsicle stick houses. If you dont have kids, treat the wife to dinner somewhere nice. All of these things will be alot more rewarding. Do not think for a second that this car, or anything to do with it, is worth anything compared to your loved ones. Enjoy it for what it is, and stop feeling threatened by anyone else that wants to enjoy it for what it is.

Like I said that cool that you have and sti and are 18! I have no problem with that. The moral of the story was:

If you work for it, you will appreciate it more!

Bottom line! No if, and, or but about the subject.

As for you, good luck in your job man...whatever that might be... I was wondering if your decor at work is padded? Is the corporation named red room...?

quiksoob2002 Sep 18, 2003 06:49 AM

WOW. That is all I can say after reading this thread. Some of you older guys really are jealous aren't you? It's quite ridiculous that you have such narrow views of the way things work.

I myself am 21 years old and have an STI that I pay for myself. The funny thing is that my payments are probably alot smaller than most becasue of the amount I put down. 277/month, for 3 yrs. I also have my own place, so I pay mortgage, and all the other bills that come along with it.(cable, electric, internet, phone, etc..)

I think it is pretty sad that someone who makes 400/day cant barely afford a $32k car. Come on. Where the hell did you learn to manage your money? I make $35k/yr at work and another $5k/yr from the army. Considerably less than most of you probably, I am having no problems paying for the car and still enjoying myself in other aspects of my life. I think that it is really funny that the best post to date in this thread is by an 18yr old.

You older gentlemen really need to grow up, and open your eyes.

Wow, it looks like Donald Trump is 17 and Bill Gates is 21. Call the National Enquirer!

Honestly, this is about fanboys who like to live in their virtual reality. It is highly annoying when people, punks or no, claim unrealistic feats while others of us have actually accomplished them. This is not exclusive to the 'can you afford an STi below age X' dispute.

Some of ya'll are being honest, alot of others aren't. This is becoming more and more apparent.

This topic has been beaten to death back when the wrx first arrived overseas, its like arguing science vs religion, please just let this thread die, the thread has went way off topic and people are starting to use live ammo.

Some young guys with fast cars will have god complexes, while others will not. Some older guys will look down upon the younger guys because of the ones that do have god complexes and hurt themselves and ruin some great cars. Those are the facts of life, most of us that have been here for more than a week know this, there's no need to keep throwing it out there, everyone just enjoy their cars, whether you bought it with your own money or not ok? I really don't need anyone telling me if i'm appreciating my own car, if i feel like i do, then thats all that is important.

another narrow sighted opinion from the expert of all that happens in the world. So why don't you let us know which of these posts you are calling bs on. Remember, just because you can't do it, doesn't mean it can't be done.

Yeah, so many B.S. stories on this thread. I make 900K a year an have been chosen over people with a masters for my position, even though I only have a GED and just turned 18. Yeah right, Richie Rich! Hurry up and get into the Rich sti!

subysteve Sep 18, 2003 03:55 PM

more power to anyone who can afford a sti , but i dont know how you guys do it , i am 22 and i got lucky didnt go to college , worked 60 plus hour weeks , for 3 years straight , saved money now i own my own restaurant I make 70 plus and think i cannot honestly afford the sti , to the peeps at 18 making 10plus its good money but instead of wasting it on a sti invest it into your bussiness and when ur making 50 plus an hour while others are working for you then buy the sti ;) , its all what you want in life , some people can afford the sti making 20k a year , my advice is to you young peeps who are making this money save it now b4 your expenses start rolling in rent blah blah , 5 years from now you will be like wow were did all this money come from , trust me it has for me

808stateSTI Sep 18, 2003 03:57 PM

Im 21 and just purchased my silver STI two weeks ago. I make my own payments and pay my own insurance (580 for 6 months). All I have to say about this subject is that I love my STI.

955 Daytona Sep 18, 2003 08:16 PM

First off, woot to loving the car. It only seems to get better the longer I have it. The tires do tend to lose pressure, so check them every few weeks. Probably has something to do with the soft rubber being more porous...science is fun!

Second, woot to choosing 808state as your handle, I loved that group in the 80's and I know they have some new stuff. Honestly I know the songs by sound like a 'timebomb' song etc. but could you tell me a quick list of song titles so I can rob those poor record labels another sliver of their projected profit growth?

I am done being mean, it won't help and I don't feel any better afterwards either...however I do feel alot better any time I see/think about/drive my bleu/silver baby...

STi'm Crazy! Sep 18, 2003 09:04 PM

I'm 19 and I dont know about some of you other young guys but i know that buying a STi at my age is stupid (assuming you dont make 90k a year). I could have payed my way through a 4year school or saved some more and... and...and well I don't GIVE A F*** about that, I'm 19 years old and I just want fast car. Who has what, how they got it and what they do with it is really no ones business.

None of us see the trials, failures and struggles which these guys have voluntarily encountered in order to gain possession of their car; we have no Knowledge of the sacrifices they have made, of the undaunted efforts they have put forth, of the faith they have exrcised, that they might overcome the apparently insurmountable, and obtain the car of their dreams. Some of us are only seeing the aparent effects of things (NEW STi) and not the things themselves (Long 60 hour work weeks and other sacrifices). Just because I have the same car that you do does not give me or anyone else the right to judge if someone is or isn't worthy of this car.

BOTTOM LINE its a cool car why cant we just talk about it instead of dumb S*** like this.

Sorry,
Brett

Agreed, let's drop it already!

insaneSTi Sep 23, 2003 10:14 AM

I'm 20 have a blue/silver STi and i'm paying for it all myself every penny. I tried to get my mother to let me borrow a 1000 for a downpayment or put me on her insurance and was denied. I make 30k a year plus overtime and i do stuff on the side.

Insurance if i was totally on my own would $7000 a year (i can hear heads spinning now) so anyone young looking to buy one of these you better be making cash if your not going to be on your parents insurance. On my girlfriends policy it's like $4000 a year.

To 955 Daytona don't paint in broad strokes and compare everyone else to you. When i was 17 i had a 97' del sol VTEC that i worked for making $23000 a year working 3rd shift then going to HS right after in the morning gettin A's and B's in every class and 1320 on my SAT(good coincedence 1320) so it can be done because some people mature faster or whatever but people are different everyone's not you.

I'm 20 and the manager of 3 departments at a major supplier of General Electric power generation parts and am a certified NDT inspector and have spent nothing on my education all paid for by my work and i'm now taking business management classes thanks to my company, don't be bitter because other's have been lucky in life.

There are professional race car drivers younger than you so i don't know what age means.

STiLL WILL Sep 23, 2003 11:26 AM

come on people, move on already.
