subaru 360
One of the first cars FHI built. 2 cyl, 2 stroke engine with 360cc of displacement. Rear engine and I believe RWD. First built in the late 50's in Japan, and first brought over to the US in the late 60's.
The came in a variety of shapes, from coupe, to van, to truck, to convertable, to sport model.

i do like the mini but its been done. And with the new cooper the ini has become even more hard to come by as an inexpennsive play thing.
I was kinda thinking about goin a bit radical with the 360 and droping in my 1.8 fwd.
that would be fun.

There is definitely the unique factor in the 360 (esp. with a 1.8L FWD swap).
It'll be work, but I can really see your point on doing something original.
There is the owners club, which I linked above, but I don't know if they are still active. If they are, I'm sure you can get a wealth of information from them.

What is the little white hatchback on the right in that race picture, number 3 on the side? Is that an old Civic? I'm a pretty damned big fan of fender mirrors...
