Are you sure your friends are talking about a waist gate? And not a wastegate.

If you're still using your stock turbo, the wastegate is built into it and it's not exactly something you and just buy and replace.

If you're confused by any of this, go to a shop. This was covered in post #7.

cool! i was right about OEM WG! thanks bud. wasnt sure exactly WHERE internally it was. IIRC, it located in turbine of turbo?

Before this comes up:
BOV-intake relief
IWG/EWG- exhaust relief

You are most likely referring to the wastegate actuator. Those don't really ever "go bad". It's a mechanical piece that is controlled by boost pressure. You've probably got a vacuum or boost leak somewhere in the system.
