How bad do I need a new air fuel sensor?

Hi Everyone,

So I took my 2004 forester in for its 75,000 mile maintenence, and the guy said I needed a new air fuel sensor. I said I was going to wait, and was wondering what the consequences of not having one were. I have heard that it decreases your gas mileage (by what?) and gives you worse emissions (by how much?)

Is this true?

Should I get one?

Thanks,

Also, it seems like I have 2 of these - the one if front of the catalytic converter is the one that is out
