I am really sorry to hear about that. If maybe everyone could just take a moment of silence to respect those who are no longer with us.

If the passengers didnt want to be racing around with the driver then why were they in the car? Or better yet at an M3 meet.

Im very sorry for the loss of your friend James, may he rest in peace.
1. Rally drivers are racing LEGALLY at a sanctioned event with all available safety equipment and safety supervisors. Both occupants of the vehicle know exactly what they are doing (racing) BEFORE entering the vehicle. Your argument on this point is invalid.

2. Going to a car meet does not mean you agree with racing. I go to car meets ALL the time and I don't race. Even when we go on drives, I go at MY pace and let the guys who want to go faster go faster. I usually drive much slower on these drives if I have friends in my car. I would never want to hurt them because I'm being a dumb *** and driving like a moron. So, just because the passengers were in his car, at an M3 meet, that doesn't mean they wanted to be in the car while the guy was racing.

I feel bad for the kid that died. It sucks for the driver that he lost his good friend and that he got burnt over 60% of his body, however he has no one to blame but himself. He should have had the common sense to not drive in the manner in which he was (many forums have him driving at 100+ mph - this was claimed by eye witnesses driving with him), and also not to drive outside of his limits.

This is why you shoud keep your racing to sanctioned events and tracks.

Speak for yourself, that is not why I am here.

2. Going to a car meet means you RACE or your a collector, m3 is not a collectable, they mod they race.. thats the point.
1. That would be pretty accurate. If I do "race", I maybe go up to 10 mph over the speed limit at most. That's the truth.

2. You're making broad assumptions with no foundation. Just because when YOU go to a car meet, YOU race, that does not mean that we all do. In fact, we have regular Sacramento area meets EVERY Saturday night, and not a single person there does any racing at that time. We had a bbq last week at a performance shop where we got together (subarus and dsms), ate burgers, talked, hung out, went home. Nobody raced. And a WRX is by no means a collector.

Certainly some car meets are for racing - a lot of guys go up to Reno and autox there (sanctioned). A lot of guys go out to Sears Point (infineon) and drag on sanctioned nights. A lot of guys go to Thunderhill, and do rally x or track days (sanctioned). But we don't all get together for the purpose of driving to an industrial area with long, empty straight roads and race for money. That's stupid and people die doing that too.
