A Fallen Friend
My best friend had a very bad accident this past saturday. He has over 60% burns on his body. My other friend in the back seat did not make it. Just wanted to post this because he is a fellow car enthusiast just like most of us.

I am really sorry to hear about that. If maybe everyone could just take a moment of silence to respect those who are no longer with us.

i'm really sorry to hear. i've been following link after link to other forums and here's the info i've gathered on what happened.
it was an m3 meet of some sort in socal and the incident happened on some canyon run. some guy in a red m3 was attempting to pass a black smg m3, but try as he might he couldn't. the driver of the red m3 had two passengers. at a certain turn he was attempting to pass the black m3 going 100mph into a sharp turn and fell over the side. the car one way or another ended up upside down. the driver and his friend in the passenger seat were able to walk away from the car, but unfortunately the passenger in the back seat was stuck from the door being jammed, and he was screaming for help. they heard some popping noise and from what i read it exploded, burning the person inside to death.
i personally don't feel any pity at all for the driver. it was completely idiotic and moronic of him to be driving that fast just by himself, but with 2 of his friends in the car with him, that's just unforgivable. he deserves everything that's coming to him.
so i hope everyone learns something from this, and that the stupidity of james' friend is never repeated. james is the name of the person who died in the crash. if you follow the links, i believe people are sending james' family money in account of this sad incident. rip james.

The driver did crash, but thats the nature of the business. That is why we are all here. It is a very dangerous sport. Would you not have pitty on a driver in a rally if the co-driver died?
If the passengers didnt want to be racing around with the driver then why were they in the car? Or better yet at an M3 meet.
Im very sorry for the loss of your friend James, may he rest in peace.

2. Going to a car meet does not mean you agree with racing. I go to car meets ALL the time and I don't race. Even when we go on drives, I go at MY pace and let the guys who want to go faster go faster. I usually drive much slower on these drives if I have friends in my car. I would never want to hurt them because I'm being a dumb *** and driving like a moron. So, just because the passengers were in his car, at an M3 meet, that doesn't mean they wanted to be in the car while the guy was racing.
I feel bad for the kid that died. It sucks for the driver that he lost his good friend and that he got burnt over 60% of his body, however he has no one to blame but himself. He should have had the common sense to not drive in the manner in which he was (many forums have him driving at 100+ mph - this was claimed by eye witnesses driving with him), and also not to drive outside of his limits.
This is why you shoud keep your racing to sanctioned events and tracks.

1. So you never race unless its under a sanctioned event? Thats like getting pissed off going to a gun range an a gun explodes in your face and getting pissed because your friend wasnt a professional shooter...
2. Going to a car meet means you RACE or your a collector, m3 is not a collectable, they mod they race.. thats the point.
As to the other poster....
So why are you here? Wanna brag you got a Subaru, Congrats. 90% of everyone else is here because of modding and guess what?!?! R A C I N G.....
People race on the street, its a fact of life, and is considered a sport of sorts. Like I said 90% of the people in here are looking for ways to make there car faster... I would love to see 1 post saying...
I LOVE THE STI BUT ITS TO FAST, ANYONE HAVE ANY SUGESTIONS ON HOW TO MAKE IT SLOWER BECAUSE IM NOT A PROFESSIONAL RACER AND WOULD HATE TO SEE SOMEONE GET HURT.
Please... get your heads out of your a@@ and wake up...
Yes its stupid, Yes he probably extended his limits. Guess what!?! You race, You die or get seriously hurt. If you cant accept this and mourn the loss without pointing a finger at someone who does the same @hit as you, then your in the wrong "Business"

2. You're making broad assumptions with no foundation. Just because when YOU go to a car meet, YOU race, that does not mean that we all do. In fact, we have regular Sacramento area meets EVERY Saturday night, and not a single person there does any racing at that time. We had a bbq last week at a performance shop where we got together (subarus and dsms), ate burgers, talked, hung out, went home. Nobody raced. And a WRX is by no means a collector.
Certainly some car meets are for racing - a lot of guys go up to Reno and autox there (sanctioned). A lot of guys go out to Sears Point (infineon) and drag on sanctioned nights. A lot of guys go to Thunderhill, and do rally x or track days (sanctioned). But we don't all get together for the purpose of driving to an industrial area with long, empty straight roads and race for money. That's stupid and people die doing that too.

Most people on here race on the street. If you crash at 75 mph or 100 mph is will be very deadly. Im not saying the im type to race in heavy traffic, but I do race on the street. Always have.
Buy an STI or WRX means you wanna go fast on the street. Most people dont buy an STI or WRX new with the intention to gut the car and make it track ready or legal. They buy it because its fast and they wanna race on the street.
The people in the car could have told there friend to cut the crap or let them out. Im not trying to blame any one person here, im calling it a fatality of the business. I bet everyone in that car was into the race until it went very wrong, then maybe they start pointing fingers, but if they came out of it without a scratch they would be cheering about it for days.
One more thing about the foundation of my arguement. This isnt new news. It happens every day. So I think ive seen it before....
