Car Died.

My car died on saturday (July 4th) as I was speeding around a corner. As I was coming around the corner I lost power. I mashed the pedal and nothing happened. Then I noticed I had lost power because the power steering went away.

Got to the side of the freeway and tried to restart the car. The car starts but then dies a second later. Got the car towed home and tried to pull the code.

I can't pull a code because the OBD2 scanner says the car doesn't pass it's emission testing. The manual also says it won't pull a code if emission testing doesn't pass. The OBD2 scanner says the following emissions test either can't start or fail:

C: Catalyt Monitor
EV: EVAP System Monitor
O: Oxygen Sensor Monitor
OH: Oxygen Sensor Heater Monitor

I'm hoping it's just an oxygen sensor and not something more expensive.

Anyone else experience this same problem?

Thanks,

Jason

All your belts still intact? How's the car sound for those few seconds that it runs? I had exactly this same thing happen to me... in my case, I had spun a bearing Hopefully for you it's something less serious.

few weeks ago my 05 WRX died suddenly too. I couldn't start it, looked like battery died, I jump started and had no problems since.
Does ur car cranks? or nothing happens when u turn on ignition?

The car cranks over fine. Sounds pretty normal for the 1 or 2 seconds that it's on. Don't think it's the battery and all the hoses and belts appear normal. Guess I'll have to wait until I get it to a shop to figure out wha is wrong with it.

Thanks,

Jason

Just a reminder: Pull the MAF sensor out next time. Turns out that a bug's wing/body was on the MAF sensor. This was causing the problem. Stupid me. It's always the little things.

Filter was in place. I have no idea how a bug's wing got on the MAF. I guess some stuff can get through. I just know that next time I'm gonna pull the MAF out first so I can save myself a lot of time.
